Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
@zapper let us know definitively before you deactivate your site if all of the horses aren't spoken for, because we'll find something to do with them Honestly we hate seeing any record lost.
0 Starts: 0-0-0 Personality "Lady" Always moving, it seems, throwing her head, rolling her eyes and crow hopping. She isn't spooky, just energized and ready to get going, she was bred to run and wants to exhibit her fine breeding quite badly, often bolting even while under restraint. Luckily she has responded well to training and has come to learn that it's not about the speed, but the stamina and she has learned to stay off the pace and wait patiently to show her turn of foot. She is most comfortable a little further back in the field with one or two other horses, if too far in front she loses focus, too far back and she loses hope and won't respond when asked to accelerate. It's a fine balance like a hair on a knife's edge and winning races will be just as much work for her, as it is for her jockey. We hope this persnickety filly will find her stride and her niche once she's race ready. Tack: standard bridle and eggbutt snaffle and shadow roll.

7th - UNICORN HORN JUVENILE DIRT* - 10F - D - 2yo at GHF January Wk 4 Personality "Tatanka" is a gorgeous creature, but he doesn't seem to know it. He is possibly the most humble a horse one can meet, his nature is as soft and quiet as his body is solid and filled in with muscle. He's calm, cool as a cucumber and in a constant state of relaxation it seems, even when being saddled up, galloped or paraded to the post. He is often a touch slow at the break and settles comfortably in the middle of the field where he can still have a good view of the leaders while running five to ten lengths off the pace, he likes to run a little away from the rail and swing wide into the stretch for his closing drive. He can patiently wait until the final hundred yards to edge passed his rivals, or overtake them at the top of the stretch given the distance of the race. Moving between horses in larger fields is proving a little challenging, he lacks some confidence here after clipping heels with another horse in a workout and falling before Greasy Creek acquired him. Tack: rubber ring bit, flash noseband.

"Crunch" is a level headed, although belligerent, colt thus far in his racing career. He is coming along quite nicely despite his small stature and Greasy Creek hopes to get him up to speed soon enough to get a few races under his cinch before he heads into his three-year-old campaign. He still runs a little green, swings wide off the turns and ducks in toward the rail seeming to believe he is actually a greyhound, but further training is sharpening him up and we feel confident once he figures himself out and matures a little, he can be a quality, high caliber colt. Typical tack includes a flash nose band, egg butt snaffle and hood with French cup blinkers to keep him focused. In his first race he seemed to be in the clear with a good position just off the flank of the pace setter, in the end the speed was a bit much for him and he was outrun to the wire. A good effort but he failed to switch leads until late in the race, still learning and we expect him to learn much from this first start.

"Bo" is honest and that's about all there is to say, he'll try his hardest every time and does anything when asked. He does best when holed up with a few other horses and will excel in larger fields where he can stalk the pace comfortably from a few lengths back with other horses. He's got no problems clipping stirrups, rubbing shoulders and slipping between other runners and likes to stick close to the rail which causes some lugging in when running down the stretch. He tends to pull up a little if he suddenly finds himself in front and must be kept to task by his rider until the wire, he isn't quite smart enough to know when the race is over. He is very competitive, however and does very well in head to head duels with others in his workouts, as long as he's steered close to his adversary in the stretch to get a good look at him, he'll push for every last inch until he zips past the wire. If he loses, he lost trying, and if he wins, he seems to know it and prances to the winner's circle. The track is the only place where he exudes any kind of seriousness or professionalism, it isn't uncommon for him to play up, a lot, before a race and the constant prancing, hopping, spinning and kicking almost seems to be a sort of dance, hence his name.

"Thorn" is as prickly as his name implies. Where his sire is laid back and carefree, Thorn is difficult and has a pretty bad attitude most days. He's a cribber, a pacer and just a troublemaker overall. Not smart enough to unlock gates like Bushwhacker, he instead likes to lean heavily on doors to strain the latches until they bend or break. One word that best describes him is unapproachable, he'll pin his ears and toss his head and isn't much of a people pleaser, he's just here for himself and only aims to please himself. If there's something in it for him he might play nice but bring the stud chain just in case.

"Dixie" is as sweet as Southern ice tea. She was always a very honest and hard working runner when she was still racing. She's never in much of a hurry for anything as her race record showed and when called from the pasture she always comes, but at her own pace, which is usually a leisurely walk. Her calm and relaxed nature seems to rub off on her foals. Overall she's just a good natured animals and easy to get along with, even when she is in season she isn't mareish by any means.

"Bonnie" was a purchase years ago to aid in getting GCT off and running. Bought with two other fillies Black Bonnie was soon found to have an undesirable temperament so breeding plans were put on hold for a time. She is the stable's rough and tumble girl, Bonnie is no delicate flower and will put even a stallion in his place, she has absolutely no fear. It was this bold and adventurous spirit that served her well on the track even if she never won, she certainly had the makings of an eventual winner once she got her preferences figured out. But it was simply not to be. Today she still rules the roost and is the guardian of the foaling paddock where any disorderly colts and fillies will be swiftly corrected. GCT's mannerly offspring have this tough as nails mare to thank for that.

Tappers is a colt full of drive and ambition. His name suits him well in every way. He is known for being a big ball of energy and never running into a tiring stage. He could run for miles if you let him. With all his bouncing energy, he is best suited for being kept outside in a private paddock with dozens of toys around for him to keep himself occupied. Even with his high energy, Tappers is a colt who is easy to love and to work with. Give him a job and he will throw every ounce of himself into the task. He is a hard working horse who is motivated by the desire to please. He easily wins over the hearts of everyone he encounters. His major flaw is that if he isn't being worked to keep his energy levels under control, he becomes destructive. If that doesn't get your attention, then his sudden change to a big ole grump will. What is the plus side to this flaw? It doesn't take much to turn this colt around. Just working with him and giving him the attention he needs will make it seem like there isn't a flaw with him at all.
Tappers has some versatility to him when it comes to racing. While he is a ball of loaded energy, he does tend to break away from the gate just a tad behind the others. It doesn't disqualify this guy from making up any ground, though. Rather than using up all his stored energy to contend with the leaders, he is the smart one and holds back in the middle of the pack. He is not a rail horse. He is suitably comfortable being on the far outside. Even though he has to travel further than his opponents, it doesn't hinder him excelling speed in any way. When the end is near, all it takes is one whip tap from his rider and he unleashes all his fury and energy into his final sprint for home. He has an uncanny ability to take the path where nobody goes and he will charge to the finish with a turn of foot that will take your breath away. Once he sees the end in sight, he stops at nothing to fight to the finish. He is a people pleaser and will stop at nothing to get that praise and recognition at the end of a race.
