Daredevil Stud is saying farewell to seven broodmares. It was just announced that seven of their more seasoned mares were finally being released into the fields as guardians and caretakers for yearlings, now that they are pensioned from all breeding duties. Bethany Cavallo, the broodmare manager for the established, gave us a few words about this huge turnover within the Daredevil production ranks:

"These mares have gifted the racing world with some top talent racers. IRS is constantly feeding us new blood and stock at the end of every season and the time has come to pass on the torch to the next generation and make room for some of the new maiden mares. It's going to be a new season for the bloodstock here at Daredevil stud. New mares and no expectations of the foals they will produce. We're nervous, sure, moving away from proven producers, but we're excited at the same time because I know that this is all an adventure. I'm confident that this new wave of mares will still delight and surprise us - holding up to the Daredevil brand. I mean, we bred most of these mares after all. So it can't be that bad."

Well, there you have it. It seems that Daredevil Stud, the breeding division of Intrepid Racing, is turning over a new leaf, so to speak, within their breeding stock. We're excited to see just what new stock will come out from the newest additions to their broodmare band.

Here is the officially released list of mares that have been pensioned from the breeding shed:

Admirable - Grade One
BHOF War Admirable x BHOF Rosalind
Y4 Black Bay Thoroughbred Mare

This mare came from prime IRS bloodlines, a daughter of BHOF War Admiral and BHOF Rosalind. As a racer, she achieved grade one status and as a mother, she produced some quality foals. Her own daughter, Meritorious, is one of the new broods to be entering into the ranks, taking the place of her mother within the breeding ranks. She had one colt, Night Visions, out of BHOF Night Stalker and he himself raced to success as a Grade One victor. He stands now as Admirable's only son. Her final foal is currently a yearling for Highgrove Thoroughbreds and out of G1 Coco Cabana. This filly has quite the reputation to live up too, but we're rooting for this final daughter of Admirable.

Carmilla - Grade Five
Night Stalker x Requiem
Y6 Black Thoroughbred Mare

Carmilla was a mare that never quite got the chance to race, but with her pedigree, we took her in from Akita Rose Stables. A daughter of BHOF Night Stalker and out of our own BHOF Requiem, there was no reason to not think that she couldn't produce something of worth, given her prestigious pedigree. We weren't disappointed. Her firstborn, Miss Josephine, was bred by Akita Rose and then raced by Battle Brook Stables. She herself has just become a momma and is carrying the torch for Carmilla as a grade one winner and now a new producer. Eulogy Rise is a still racing daughter of Grade Three status for New Hope Pasture. More recent and prominent is Native Charm, a now Grade three year old, she's on a furious winning streak. Sired by Native Flame, we're too excited to see how she continues to race with IRS. Her last foal and daughter is Mircalla, racing with North Diamond Manor as a juvenile.

Midsommer Night - Maiden
Devil May Cry x Scary Harriet
Y1 Silver Grey Thoroughbred Mare

This stunning grey mare never raced, but she busted her ass off in the breeding shed. G1 Blanchette, G5 Carabella, G2 Indian Night & G4 Gladiator are the foals that stand to her name. Blanchette has gone on to become a G1 producer herself and Carabella foals are waiting to prove themselves on the tracks. Indian Night is currently racing for Battle Brook Stables and making quite a name for himself this season. Gladiator too is currently racing as a juvenile for Valkyrie Stables. We're excited to see how her final set of racing foals continue to perform on the tracks. Not bad for a mare who never raced, right?

Native Gold - Grade Four
An Original
Y6 Bright Bay Thoroughbred Mare

When IRS was trying to get into the sprinter division, this is the mare who really pulled through to give us some of the best sprinters we've ever had. She only raced until she was a G4, under Dream Valley Stables, but when she was put up for sale, we purchased this mare not knowing what kind of foals she would produce and she stunned us. Her first foal and son, might be a name you know, Grade One Winner Chatoyant. He is still running and winning to this day. Her next foal was our own Doubloon Moon, who will be stepping up to take her mother's place within our breeding ranks. She herself was also a Grade One Winner. Currently, her son Gambling Fortune is also a Grade One winner and currently racing alongside his older brother. Her final foal, Outlander, is a filly by DT Jupiter, is a Y16 filly, a juvenile who's currently racing for Highgrove Thoroughbreds and has yet to finish outside of the money. We couldn't be more proud of Native Gold and all of her offspring's accomplishments.

Silver Tide - Unraced - Retired Eventer

We love this mare. She's done everything from racing to eventing and then went on to become a killer producer for us. Her firstborn really doesn't need much of an introduction - BHOF Akuma Battlecry. He's sired Classic winners, G1 winners, the whole shebang. Her first daughter, Calypso's Fury, sired by TC Winner Furious Passion, went on to become her own success as a Grade One Champion and now is looking to step into her mother's shoes in the breeding shed. G1 Quick Silver, G1 Wild Tide, and G2 Bold Trick are all still racing and doing amazing things. Silver Tide has more than done her job as a mother and we can't wait to see what comes from her offspring.

Sun Chaser - Grade Three
Determination x Djerba's Sunshine
Y2 Chestnut Thoroughbred Mare

Chase was a horse that we bought way back in the day. She raced well but didn't get the full exposure she'd needed when IRS went quiet for a couple years. When we returned to the game, we put her right to work as a broodmare and used the last reserve EVER to the Legendary Augusto. What resulted was HOF Anodyne. He was our second ever horse inducted into the HOF for Intrepid. He has just started his stud career and we're excited to see how he progresses. Jazzasoliel is a retired Grade Two Mare, then Grade One Winner Firestorm, owned by Battle Brook Stables. He has just entered into his stud career. Her only current offspring is Y16 born, juvenile racer Alcyone, sired by Kore VS (sire of G1 Hokum). We're thrilled to see how this last daughter of Sun Chaser continues to develop on the track.

Sweet Catomine - Grade Five

Swee has been with IRS/Daredevil Stud since the beginning and she's well overdue for a rest. Her offspring include: G1 Amarillo Sky, G1 Lethal Dose, G2 Catastrophic and G5 Beneficence. Her retired offspring are grade one winners and just starting their own breeding careers. Her active racers are ones to watch and Beneficence is finding her own path as a three-year-old. Her older siblings got better and better the older they got and we're holding out the same expectations for this final daughter of Sweet Catomine.

Whistlin' Dixie - Maiden

Whistlin' Dixie is a mare that has made her mark as a producer of top sprinters. G2 Buccaneer and G1 Dark Charmer are both retired sons of the mare and have made impressive impacts on the sprinter industry. He sired Doubloon Moon, a retired G1 Winner and looking to start her own breeding career. Southern Peach is a retired Grade One daughter of Whistlin' Dixie and by DT Jupiter. She is starting her breeding career. Whistle Blower is her last foal and currently a grade four runner for Intrepid. He's looking prime and ready to go.
