SET SAIL | WORKOUTS FOR SAYLOR MOON & ARMADAAlexandria had high hopes for the two year old fillies of Winchester Racing. Both were bred for the turf track and were being prepped for their upcoming debut. She had lucked out as both were extremely intelligent fillies that had a lot of potential on the track. They had both been showing a lot of promise and were improving greatly in each of their workouts. She had decided to take them out together today, as Alexandria had plans to enter them in their first races soon.
The two fillies made their way out to track in their usual fashion. Both were very level headed for being so young and knew the track meant it was time to work. Lexi mounted the bay filly, Saylor Moon, while her flashy ebony work partner, Armada was ridden by her assistant trainer, Sean Courtney. As they rode out, Sean let out a soft chuckle, looking down at Lexi, "how's it feel riding next to this beast?" he joked. The black filly towered over Saylor standing at 16.3 hands while Saylor was more of a compact build just standing a little over 15 hands. Lexi shook her head and stroked her fillies neck, smiling, "Well, she makes up for her size in speed. Don't get cocky." Lexi and Sean had a close relationship and now that she was the head of her father's farm, she was the one calling the shots.
As they walked onto the track, both fillies perked up. They had planned to work the two for four furlongs over the turf. As they made their way towards their start point, head to head, both horses began a soft gallop. As soon as they hit their start, they both jumped into a powerful breeze, making sure the two fillies remained side by side. Armada and Sean took the outside track while Lexi and Saylor remained on the rail. While Armada's strides were larger and swept across the track with big bounds, Saylor's were quick and fluid. Nonetheless, both fillies remained neck and neck as they made their way around the turn towards the stretch.
As they hit the stretch, both jockeys pushed their horses forward letting them have a little rein. Both fillies responded to the release and shot forward with a burst. Saylor burst forward, her legs moving even quicker to match strides with Armada who lengthened her stride and pushed her ears back responding to the challenge the little filly was putting up. They flew past the wire neck and neck, both gamely pushing each other on. "Not bad for being so little!" Sean called out to Lexi. She grinned and stroked her favorite fillies' neck again, awarding her for a job well done. "I think we got something with these two," she smiled, the excitement rising in her chest. They were ready for their debuts.
