ROLE MODEL | WORKOUT FOR ALMOST ILLEGAL & TERRIFYTerrify's body seemed to be growing a lot quicker than his mind. The flashy young colt still had a bit of growing up to do, just like any young two year old Thoroughbred colt. He was as playful in the barn as much as he was playful on the track. Almost Illegal or Leo was near the complete opposite. The three year old colt had matured slower physically than his work partner but was extremely mature mentally. He had a great disposition and work ethic on the track and in the barns, often being mistaken as a gelding. However, he had skipped his two year old season of racing as he had needed more time for his body to physically mature. Leo had a lot more experience when it came to working on the main track. Lexi hoped that Leo's calm and laid back demeanor would set a good example to the young one.
Lexi mounted up on Leo, while the spitfire of colt Terrify was ridden by one of her main jockeys, Lyndsay Sorensen. Lyndsay worked well with the playful, hard headed colts as she made sure to show them that she meant business. She didn't put up with bull shit which is why she worked so well with the young ones. As they headed onto the main track, Terrify jumped forward with excitement but Lyndsay quickly got him back under control. Meanwhile, Lexi and her dark bay steed walked respectfully onto the main track before picking up their working gallop.
Both of the colts were built for distance and the dirt, so they were planning to work five furlongs on the main track at a nice breeze. The main goal was to keep Terrify level headed throughout and make sure the two of the horses were moving out nicely. Both were expected to make their upcoming debuts. Lexi was particularly excited for her mount's debut as he had been a barn favorite for the past six months of training and one her personal favorites in particular. He had shown a lot of promise thus far and she was sure he would not disappoint on race day.
The two began their work five furlongs out from the finish line at a quick pace. Terrify took the lead on the inside, as that was his usual position due to his dislike of dirt in his face and Lexi rode Leo up along his workmate's flank at an easy pace. Leo was always very respectful when it came to positioning and would wait for Lexi to ask him for more speed before giving it. For being so playful, Terrify actually was pretty respectful to his jockey as well. As they entered the stretch, Terrify perked up immediately, pulling into the bit for more room. Lyndsay let her reins out an inch, letting the colt run. Leo waited patiently for his jockey's command and as soon as she showed him the crop, he spurt forward in a tremendous burst. Both colts battled for the lead as they flew past the wire at a tremendous pace.
Lyndsay pulled Terrify up and he listened willingly, giving a final toss of his head out of high spirits. Lexi and Leo met up with them and she smiled, "I think this was good learning experience for him. Looks like they'll be ready to go in no time."
