We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!

Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.

Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e

it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements. As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!

PLAYING WITH FIRE | LOUD SILENCE & CORR

Other than the early birds chirping, no sounds pierced the crisp morning air on the training track. The track was nearly empty as it was just barely the peak of dawn and therefore the slew of horses, jockeys, and trainers had yet to come and for the moment, the track was free from commotion. The only horse on the track was a blur of grey that traveled down the backstretch at a speedy pace. Aboard was Alexandria, sitting motionless, the reins elastic in her hands, letting the large grey filly travel at her own pace. Her large strides ate up the ground, but were graceful and smooth; effortless.

The filly galloped speedily around the turn, scaring some birds that had been perched on the track railing. Her ears pinned back as she made her way onto the homestretch, hooves tearing into the turf. Alexandria knew better than to try to hold the filly back, she would let her have her head just enough to believe that she was in control. Sil liked to be in control and to do things her way. Picking a fight was a sure way to end up in the dirt. Alexandria kept her elastic hold on the reins as they rounded the turn. Finally, the made their way to the homestretch and as the track straightened out, Alexandria gave in and let the filly have her head completely.

Sil lept forward immediately. Her long strides came faster and more fluent than before and her ears flattened against her skull as she dug in deep, lengthening her large strides even further. The silence that pierced the air was interrupted by the thunder of hooves and as she moved past the grandstand, the big mare shook the ground with each step. Alexandria still sat motionless on top of the big grey mare, a small smile playing across her lips. She was definitely pleased with how the filly was progressing and was extremely excited to see what the future held for the talented young mare. She began to slow her down, and the silence that had been briefly interrupted by the sound of Sil's hooves returned. That was, until the explosion of red burst onto the track.

The big red colt pranced onto the track, chest puffed and head held high, his teeth bared through the bit. Riding the colt was assistant trainer, Sean Courtney. Alexandria and Sean had agreed that handling Corr was like playing with fire. There was no controlling him, just being treading lightly and directing him the best you can while trying not to get hurt. They had considered gelding him to stoke the fire but thought they would give him a chance to prove himself on the track first. The colt was plain mean, but underneath the attitude was speed and talent like no other. Sean got into position, keeping a tight hold on the colt but let him begin his workout.

Corr grabbed the bit as soon as he felt the small release on the rein and charged forward down the backstretch. Sean kept his hold close on the colt, not wanting to give him too much freedom but just enough to let him breeze at his own speed. Alexandria sat upon Sil, watching Corr charge around the far turn. Watching him was fascinating as Corr moved like no other. Sean gave him an inch as they began to straighten out on the homestretch and Corr jumped forward, charging with a tremendous burst. He flew past the wire and Alexandria smiled, suppressing a grin as Sean attempted to pull up the colt. Corr was still full of run and flew towards the turn, giving Sean hell with getting him to pull up. Finally, Sean got the red colt to slow to a trot after a bit of a fight and they returned to the stables together, both trainers excited for what was to come from these two young horses.
