Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
1. The minimum field size for a race to run is 2 horses. There is no maximum.
2. You may enter up to two horses from your stable per race.
3. A horse can only be entered in races at one track at a time. For example, you can't have a horse entered in July Week One at both GHF and TW. You can, however, have a horse entered in July Week One at GHF and July Week Two at TW. However, you can definitely enter separate horses from your stable into races at every track each week!
4. Each horse may only race 24 times per year. You can divide this however you see fit - if you'd like to race a horse 3 times in a month (as long as it's not three weeks in a row), you may! However, if you want them to be able to run at the end of the year, you'll have to give them a break sometime during the year. Most of us choose to race twice per month.
5. When entering, make sure that your horse matches the race's requirements! This includes making sure your horse runs the distance/surface of the race and is of the correct age/gender/grade for the race. This is usually easy to figure out, as all restrictions are specified in the race's name. Horses that don't meet the race's requirements will be placed last or disqualified by the judge.
6. Races that are in all caps, bolded, and have a star(s) next to them [such as the STAR FESTIVAL*] are Horse of the Year (HOTY) races. These are the most major races in the game and are for the classiest horses racing. These races include general stakes races as well as series races such as the Triple Crown, the Youth Challenge, etc. A list of major races by track is included on this board! Go take a look.
7. You are allowed to scratch your horse from a race after entries close and before the race has run. (Scratching refers to removing your horse as an entry in a race.) However, there are exceptions; see rules #8 and #9. Horses cannot be scratched after a race has run unless there was a judging error (i.e. the judge didn't see that your horse preferred turf and placed him first in a dirt race).
8. If you wish to enter or move a horse to a race with only one entry (as it cannot run without the addition of another entrant), this can be done without the permission of the current entrant.
9. If you are attempting to move or late-enter a horse into a race that already has two or more entries (i.e. a race that's able to run), you must obtain the permission of all entrants in that race, even if your horse's current race cannot run due to too few entrants. To prevent having to move horses around, please check the fields before closing time so that you can freely make adjustments as needed! If all permission is granted within a reasonable amount of time, the change may occur. If a member does not give permission, that is his/her right. This rule was created to ensure that nobody can move horses from 'harder' to 'softer' fields once fields have been finalized and to prevent horses that weren't even entered in the current week from being entered in a softer race.
RULES
- 2yos will automatically lose to any older horse - 3yos will automatically lose to any older horse until July 1st of their 3yo year - A horse that has been entered for its 3rd week in a row will be automatically DQ'd - Horses that are not in the correct distance or surface range will be placed below the other horses in the field. The owner of the horse will have the option to DQ the horse if it places lower than 3rd, otherwise the results will stand and no DQ will be accepted!
The points system will be outlined below. Points for horses MUST be listed under their current season, and MUST be updated before races close each game week! Or rather, I guess they don't have to be, but your horses will be at a disadvantage without updated points. More on this in the points thread.
GRADES
Several grades (or levels of racing) exist on this site. They are separated by the number of wins that your horse has in the following fashion:
1. HOTY races are indicated on the schedule in all caps with a star - LIKE THIS STAKES*. These races attract the toughest competition and are the hardest to win. Series races are indicated with the name of the series next to the race.
2. For each HoTY race that your horse wins, the horse earns 1 HOTY point. Major Series are denoted with a double star, LIKE THAT STAKES** and are worth 2 HOTY points.
3. When nominating for end of year awards, only the top three HOTY point earners will move into the poll for that award (horses tied for an amount will all be included). Each poll requires a minimum of 5-7 votes before it can close. Tiebreakers will be put up as needed. *this rule may change dependent on number of members available.
4. As of Y19, we introduced Superlative Awards, which focus less on HOTY-points earned and more on the horses themselves. This is a great way for a horse that may not have had top-HoTY performance to gain some recognition!
SPECAL CONSIDERATIONS
1. Any horse that has won a leg of a major 3yo series will NOT be eligible to run in any other major 3yo series.
2. This includes horses running in the Spring Sprinter Series and fall Sprinter Series. Winners of the former will not be eligible to run in the latter.
