Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
Grayson Meadows' has had a long history with New Hope Pastures and their prized mare Heart of Stone. After all, the late fan favorite Passion Heart hailed from New Hope Pastures and was one of the authors that amassed an impressive season that helped put GM on the map in their first year of racing. It may have been five years ago but Passion Heart's climb to grade one was one for the history books. Leaping from grade five to grade two in a single season and finishing second to Dare to Impress by a nose in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf in a stretch run for the ages, it's easy to understand why Grayson Meadows' has such a soft spot for Heart of Stone's progeny. As a matter of fact, you can find six horses related to Heart of Stone in their string. "Passion Heart has the nastiest attitude of any horse I've ever handled. I have yet to meet a horse that rivals her attitude and I hope the day never comes. I tried to resist bringing any more of them in, now I have six of them." Hadley chuckled as she explained her attempt to avoid Heart of Stone's foals and grandfoals. Proving to be a family trait, most of those horses are relatively slow to develop. "They're the least impressive runners I've ever seen in their early years." Hadley commented. However proving to be lackluster runners in their first few seasons Hadley warned to not ignore the late bloomers. Passion Heart didn't get rolling until her four year old season, Rules of Passion didn't get rolling until her three year old season, Passionist (Passion Heart's first foal) had surprisingly good form his two year old season, lagged some his three year old season and came back to win five HOTY races his senior season. There's a general trend that simply cannot be ignored. Insolence, went from grade four to grade two last season and is slowly breaking into HOTY ranks this season. The common trend? All improved with age. So what late bloomers is Grayson Meadows' hiding behind their doors? Well, it's quite a hefty list but we'll bring you along to meet each of these horses. First, we have Angel of Mercy. "She's the laziest, most hard headed, fattest, ill tempered, free loading-" trainer Steve Wilson was silenced by a look from barn manager and owner Hadley Grayson. Angel of Mercy is the daughter of Passion Heart and Hokum, both late bloomers. Hokum leaped from grade five to grade one in dramatic fashion his three year old season and is known for his nasty attitude, Passion Heart lept from grade five to grade two in one season. "We probably should have just waited to let her start until she was four because she's pretty uninterested in even touching the win-" again Hadley silenced frustrated trainer Steve Wilson with a look. "Sorry about my disgruntled trainer, he's got some high expectations that Mercy simply hasn't been able to quite live up to yet." Angel of Mercy is a very large filly that presently is downhill and pudgy meaning she's likely about to shoot up another hand in the near future. She's still very leggy and looks more like a two year old than a three year old who is going to be taking on older horses later this season. However gloom trainer Steve Wilson seems to be about the filly, Hadley seems optimistic and says that come her four year old season the rest of the racing world might want to take a second look at Angel Of Mercy. Next, we have none other than the second daughter of Passion Heart by Livin' The Jazz. Cultural Passion by most standards has been heavily underraced and is starting behind the majority of her crop, however, Hadley warned us not to underestimate the mare. Upon purchase and arrival to Grayson Meadows Cultural Passion looked a lot like Angel of Mercy currently. Fat, downhill, leggy and was compared often to an ugly duckling. However Hadley saw a diamond on the rough. After a few works that were nothing but laughable Steve chucked the mare out on a pasture for her three year old season to grow up and to simply be a horse. "We pulled her out to get her started to prep for her return to the track for her 4 year old season in November and she'd just blossomed. Her nasty resistant attitude had all but disappeared after being turned out with the open broodmares, including her dam who evidently must have put the mare in her place. Lass is considered the most loving of any of Passion Heart's foals and would happily crawl into her handlers laps to take a snooze if you let her. "She latched herself onto Andrew and will sprint across her pasture if she sees him, she's always the first to nicker at him when he steps into the barn in the morning. She's just absolutely head over heels in love with him." Hadley commented. Aloof and easy going have been words often used to describe the once feisty daughter of Passion Heart. Since beginning her 4 year old season Cultural Passion has displayed a similar trend to her dams, she's taken three races already this season and seems to show little signs of slowing down. "She took the Y20 Grade Five Bangtail stakes, the very same race that her dam won in Y14 that started her impressive climb to grade two. I try not to draw too many comparisons between the two since they're completely different animals but man if you let her go on the lead she'll thump her competition by a mile, she's so similar to Passion Heart in her running style I find it almost creepy," jockey Andrew Martin commented. Next we have the son of Rules of Passion and HOF Forbidden to Fly who has been somewhat of a disappointment to his sire with his slow start to racing. The grey colt failed to break his maiden until August of last year and has been consistent but relatively nonthreatening in the undercard fields. "He's like a toddler and he throws a fit when things don't go his way, he can't quite seem to figure out how to get into the groove of racing tactically just yet but we're hoping all of the undercards he's been running in provide a learning experience." Hadley commented. The colt is known for his nasty temper and several meltdowns that he's had in the post parades. "He's not a slow horse, he puts in some of the best works we have when he's on his game but he struggles to apply that speed to his races, so experience seems to be the only way we're going to get through to him," trainer Aaron Evertt commented on the colts progress. Then GM has the flashy bay sabino mare Secret's Garden who is related to another one of their plethora of G3 runners, Superbad. Much like Cultural Passion, Secret's Garden has been impressively underraced having only 32 starts as a five year old and missing her four year old season entirely. This mare is by the full brother to Passion Heart, Ruler's Secret whos stud career has been rather lack luster producing only one other foal Book Of Secrets by the blue hen mare Lady Liberty who currently just broke into the cut-throat G3 territory as a four year old. Secret's Garden has been described as explosive by the staff at GM, most of them commenting on how you literally never know what this mare is going to do but you have to be prepared for literally anything when it comes to handling her. Known for picking fights with other mares, Secret's Garden doesn't do the best job of keeping her composure. "We picked her up at the last sale because we saw some promise not only as a runner but also as a broodmare prospect, we are lacking in our sprinting turf division of our broodmare barn so if she doesn't quite pan out that's always been the end goal." Last, but certianly not least, Insolence. Out of Heart of Stone and by GM's own Ace's Diamond Rio, Insolence has always put forth consistent small seasons and only gave the racing world a taste of what she is capable of last season. Insolence went from grade four to grade two in Y19 which included taking the Summer Cup Grade Four Turf* and trainer Steve Wilson is optimistic that the mare will continue her success this season. "She demands respect from everyone, she's kind of a control freak and it shows in her races." Insolence is a passionate front runner and when things go side ways for her she does one of two things, gives up or goes into damage control mode. "I'm not sure which of the two versions of her I prefer because they're both terrifying" jockey Alex Shade commented. "She has the potential to be wonderful but she also has to get out o f her own head." This season GM has been trying to get Insolence to breach into HOTY company but thus far have been unsuccessful. The mare has gone winless since November but has put up a good fight and slowly improved over the past few months. "That 13th win is coming, it might be at the tail end of the season but it is coming. She's very frustrated and a ticking time bomb, it's only a matter before that bomb explodes." When asked if Hadley had any intentions of acquiring more of the Heart of Stone line she responded with "I sure hope not, we have plenty. I don't hoard line's I swear."
