Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
It's been quite a while since Firestone Stud has made an appearance to the media. At first, there were many whispers of why the ever-growing Thoroughbred breeding farm were so silent; but now the reason has been made clear to all! After a generous donation from a lifelong family friend, Firestone Stud had the chance to evolve, recreated and renovate their already state of the art operations (check them out here); as well as some other exciting news in regards to the horses. We received a statement from Jenna Stafford (Broodmare Manager) and David Dryden (Stallion Manager) in hopes to inform everyone of the happenings at Firestone Stud!
"Dear The Gallop readers,
Jenna here! I'm typing out this email to you with David sitting beside me trying to take over, what else is new. We apologize for being so secretive in our operations as of late, but everyone here thinks we are ready to announce our plans going forward. Everyone here hopes you all are as excited as we are! This may be a long one, so get ready to sit back and eat some popcorn if you want.
There have been a lot of stall changes and paddock rotations happening here, and that's because we have some retirements we would like to announce. We'll start with a list of the boys, because surprisingly it's a long one. Making these choices were very difficult for us, but we know that these guys can't produce for their whole lives. David and I have thought long and hard with this one, and we've both decided to announce a stallion cap to our precious jewels. Most of our stallions will now have a limit of 6-7 foals before retiring from their duties. With such an increase in horse numbers on the track, the decision to not overpopulate was made unanimously. With that being said, all current reserves will still be met and completed; if the stallion's cap limit has been met, please call Cruisey and she will arrange an alternative stallion for you!
Stallions Being Pensioned Arlequinn | 2010 | Sire of 7 foals Cajun Moon | 2009 | Sire of 7 foals Catching Fire | 2005 | Sire of 7 foals Flying Solo | 2008 | Sire of 8 foals Red Herring | 2010 | Sire of 7 foals Tempered Passion | 2006 | Sire of 7 foals The Innocent Skier | 2007 | Sire of 6 foals
Arlequinn is now a private stallion, having already sired four ultra-competitive HoTY horses that includes the 2019 Turf Triple Sprinter Tiara Champion, Mild Manic. This sweet guy was a hot commodity with the public, and we unfortunately had to be stringent with who we gave reserves to. Other foals include graded-stakes placed 4yo Adalia (G3), 3yo Disturbia (G4), 3yo Arlecat (G3), winner of the Boy's Festival (G3+). andprospect Outcast. His last public foal is a 2020 named Elementary, out of Furaccabad for King Of The Hill Stables. Airy will sire a colt for us (mare is unplanned at this time) before he is fully pensioned from his duty.
Cajun Moon was a purchase from Battle Brook Stables many years ago, and has been a great addition to the Firestone program. Frenchie produced 3 Graded stakes horses in 2017, including leading 3-year-old colt Apache Warrior (G1), winner of the Finish Cup Juvenile Dirt (G5+), Frost King Stakes (G5+), and Cluer Memorial Stakes (G5+), before going on to win the Pegasus Dirt Handicap (G3+) as a 3yo and the Caracortado Stakes (G1) as a 4yo. Other stakes performers include Moonstorm (G1), winner of the Miesque Stakes (G3+) and runner up in the La Tia Stakes (G5+). Also represented by Never Surrender (G1), winner of 12 HoTY races and counting (Rebel Angel Sprint, Magic Millions Fillies Turf Sprint, Pretty In Pink Stakes, etc), G4 Instigator (Motion Sprint, Suicune Stakes), G3 Lunar Trek (Indominus Stakes, Diamond Sprint, Forward Gal Stakes, etc) and G5 Acadian (The Wire Finish Cup Juvenile). Frenchie is closed to the public and will have a private foal for FRS before retiring.
Catching Fire is not a name many people forget, and not just because he's tall, dark, handsome and has a personality like Satan himself. Hailing from old lines, we're truly saddened to send this guy off to retirement but we know he's done more than enough to put a stamp on his progeny. In his prime, he was the top Firestone Sire, led by his daughter Hellfire, winner of the Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies (G3+), Coaching Club American Oaks (G3+), Dr. Fager Red Mile (G3+), Easy Goer Red Mile (G3+) and the Dubai World Mile (G1). Also includes Winning Fire, champion 3-year-old filly and 6-length winner of the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and the Bison City Stakes (G1), G1 winner Samaritan Hero, a winner of 8 graded stakes races including the Travers Stakes (G3+), Louisiana Derby (G3+) and the 2018 Kentucky Derby (G1). Diesel's other progeny also includes graded stakes-placed Firefall, and juvenile twins Raging Fire (G5) and Bronze Star (G5).
Flying Solo hit the top of the stallion charts at Firestone Stud after both of his daughters took the turf world by storm over the last few seasons. His first daughter, Final Velocity (G1), was a pure experiment for us having paired him with a mare that almost seemed to appear out of nowhere. That experiment proved more successful than we could have imagined! She had a 100% in the money consistency rating as a 2yo, was a Turf Triple Sprinter Tiara near misser, winning 2/3 legs as a 3yo and rounded out her final season kicking ass against the boys. Wayward Lass (G1) was also a exceptional performer, winning 5 HoTY races as a 2yo, 3 as a 3yo, and rounding out her final season with 7 wins, including the 2019 Breeders' Filly & Mare Turf Mile (G3+) by a large margin. Solo's other successors include active G1 winner Windfallen, 10 HoTY races secured on her resume so far, as well as graded-stakes placed 3yo Solo's Song (G3), 3yo Snowbird (G3) and 2yo Hestia (G4). Prospect Druscilla is going to be racing under Braidwood Creek Manor's colours, and we are expecting a 2022 baby out of Stride of Perfection Stables' Phaedra, which would be a half-sibling to Hestia.
Red Herring, notoriously known for late blooming babies and challenging walks to the breeding shed. This big, red stallion retires with a Hall of Fame Inductee son by the name of Bold Trick (G1), also voted 2019 Stayer Of The Year and 2019 Sire(s) To Watch. Obviously, Bold Trick didn't take after his siblings, who are all graded-stakes placed but just took a little while to mature and develop fully. Red Hot Secret (G1) took his time deciding if he wanted to play racehorse or not, but he's a good stallion and has done good things for his current owner, Blackwood Equestrian. Other progeny include G3 March Hare and G5 Crimson Rush. There is a yearling named Espionage for Braidwood Creek Manor, and a weanling named Cheap Thrills for Battle Brook Stables. These two will be the last public foals for Big Red. He will continue to be stabled in the stallion barn until 2023, where he will breed one last Firestone mare before officially hitting retirement.
Tempered Passion is another name not many seem to forget around Final Furlong, a Breeder's Cup winner himself, he had nearly $4.5 million in progeny earnings in 2017 alone! With most of his progeny having retired many moons ago, Tim is already the grandsire of four racehorses. Mourning Passion (G1) was a winner of the Kentucky Derby and Speedway Stakes, and also ran well from sprint to classic distances. Passionate God (G1), while not as stellar as his siblings on the racetrack, has sired leading two year old Foreign God, who won four graded stakes races in his first season. There was a bit of a break in his stud career as he was left sitting for a while until Carter picked him up. Since then, he produced a Firestone homebred by the name of Foxy Passion (G1), out of untried mare Foxtrot. This little mare went on to be the overall Red Mile Series Champion, with an overall 92% in the money record. Other foals include a full sibling to Foxy Passion by the name of Executioner (G2), a colt who is rapidly evolving for owners Blackwood Equestrian/Golden Valley Racing. Tim's only other racing age foal is juvenile Necromancer (G5), training under Winchester Racing and has already proved his talent early on in his career. Tempered Passion has a 2020 weanling for Stride of Perfection (Rage By Moonlight), and his last public foal is planned for 2021 for Braidwood Creek Manor. He will be private until 2022, where he will sire one last private foal and then he's off to a well-earned retirement.
The Innocent Skier turned out to be quite the stud, having to compete with Flying Solo and Arlequinn for "top dog" spots on our turf list but made his presence quite known as soon as the first daughter hit the track. Pure Innocence (G1) skyrocketed to glory after her 2yo season, easily winning the Richmond Oaks (G3+), a leg of the Turf Fillies Distance Series, before going on to beat older horses in the later half of the season (Winter Cup Grade Two Turf, Found Turf Marathon). Takeover Bid (G2) had a rough go in the beginning, but is quickly flourishing with the help of Winchester Racing, with a big win in the Bella Luna Memorial Stakes this year. Other successors include Ice Fiend (G1), who recently went on lease to Valkyrie Stud to complete his 5yo season, and they have graciously accepted the offer to stand him at stud. Helios (G1) quickly rose to the top as a 2yo, with wins in the Magic Millions Colt Turf (G5+), Pumpkin Patch Stakes (G5+), and Sanford Stakes (G5+) before dominating his 3yo season, snatching a win in the Preakness Champion Stakes (Turf Triple Crown), and a very hard earned 3rd place in the Breeder's Cup Marathon. He is powering through his senior season and just keeps getting better and better. Other foals include stakes-placed filly, Dark Memories (G4), who is working very hard for Blackwood Equestrian/Golden Valley Racing.
You may or may not notice a missing name on that list, a horse who never really stayed in our stallion barn for too long. This horse happens to be Seems Legit, one of True Enough's many sons. After much deliberation and sleepless nights on what to do with him, both David and I decided to send him to multi-discipline trainers and happily married couple, Kane and Tara Rockwell from Firestone Sport Horses. Kane and Tara both saw a show jumping potential in him that David and I failed to see from the beginning - after seeing him compete and win in the show jumping ring, we knew his heart wasn't in the breeding shed and he had a lot more potential to fulfill in the riding world. Who knows, maybe there will be some Seems Legit show jumper babies in the future, as he's still got his man-hood! Fellow stablemate, Inferno, also joined Seems Legit at FSH; after being the lead ponier for many years he was getting bored with his job and needed a change of scenery - literally.
We've also sent broodmares Foxtrot and Strike The Win to be re-trained as riding horses; we noticed them becoming quite bored after being pensioned from broodmare duties and wanted to keep them in shape and enjoying life. Both horses transitioned with ease, with Strike The Win taking over the dressage world with vengeance and Foxtrot enjoying the thrill of her favourite phase of eventing, cross-country. There was also a completely new addition to the Firestone Sport Horse team, a mare we've only dealt with once many years ago and haven't seen since. Ghost Rider's dam, Night Rider, joined the FSH team as a barrel racer and hasn't looked back since.
We only have two broodmare pensions to be announced, and this mare will not be sent to the FFTA yet, if at all. Firstly, Precocious is retiring at the same time as her son, Ice Fiend (G1), and has given the world 5 healthy foals. She will not be accepting new offers, as her last foal will be coming in 2022 for Firestone Racing, a filly sired by Ode To Glory, who we have presumptively named Gifted Glory. Precocious is a mother to Daydream (G3), who wasn't a huge threat on the track but turned into a solid producer, foaling graded-stakes winner Shanty Town (Breeder's Cup Juvenile Sprint, Spring Fever Stakes, etc) and Sweet Reverie (G5). Some of her other notable foals include National Treasure (G1), winner of the Cotillion Stakes (G3+) (Triple Tiara leg) and the Secretariat Stakes (G1), Ice Fiend (G1) (achievements listed above under The Innocent Skier), Royally Mine (G3) (Selcourt Stakes winner), and Illuminati (G5).
The second mare to be retired is G1 producer Furaccabad, the blue hen mare we acquired early on in 2014. The uniquely coloured mare was an icon in her time, being one of the few palomino Thoroughbreds existing in the area. Her first foal was bred to be sold, a filly sired by Footloose who turned into a consistent turf sprinter by the age of 3. Liberated Treasure (G1) won 9 HoTY races by the age of 5 and had many in the money placings earning her a grade one status. She is currently in foal to Speedy Tomcat, and Braidwood Creek Manor will be expecting a foal early 2021. Her second daughter was already mentioned above, see Final Velocity (G1) and her achievements under Flying Solo. Following shortly after was Hemingway (G2), who, after a spectacular juvenile season, was unfortunately left behind by his first owner and is now flourishing under Grayson Meadows. Other progeny include graded-stakes placed City Lights (G4). Maggie is taking no more reserves and is currently in foal to Optical Illusion, and we are expecting a colt who will be named Illusionist. Personally, we never expected much of this mare but she gave us the middle finger and proved us wrong.
We would also like to announce some mid-year retirements on behalf of Carter and Evelyn, who kindly gave us a list of horses to talk very briefly about (with their chicken scratch notes beside each name). Most of these horses will either retire around August/September or will have a special schedule in place so that they're only racing once per month, or once every 6 weeks until the Breeder's Cup. Evelyn (to Carter's displeasure) has released a full, public list of 2020 retirement plans can be found at the bottom of the page here in case anyone is interested.
Retiring Racehorses as per Carter and Evelyn
Ouro Lume: Racing with a special schedule. 1 big race/month until the Breeder's Cup. We felt there was no reason to run her a complete full season, so one race once in a while to keep her fit is all she needs.
Sweet On You: Has proven enough, and has made up for her 3yo season. Will retire when returning from KOTHS at the end of September
Ice Fiend: Will retire and stand stud at Valkyrie Stud. No reason for him and Helios to compete for stallion duties - we'll still own a piece of him.
Charmed Weapon: Most likely will retire mid August-September. He seems like his heart isn't 100% in the game. He's G1, that's all that matters.
Insouciant: Will probably retire in September or have a special schedule for Breeder's Cup, if there are no other competitors (Red might go to the sprint, depending how he does in the TTSC). Also has nothing left to prove, has made up for his earlier seasons.
That's pretty much all that's been happening between all three Firestone properties, and I hope David and I have summed everything up nicely and to the boss' standards! Obviously, with these plans being concrete, we do welcome any questions or concerns regarding certain reserves and stallions/mares. If we don't answer right away, bug us again because sometimes we're too caught up in playing with foals haha.
Take care and see you at the races!
