Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
"Ripley... If the goal is to downsize, why, oh, why are you bringing horses in to the fold?"
Ripley lifted a brow at her assistant trainer, Malcolm Floyd, her typical response to anyone questioning her motives or intentions. She sipped the hot chocolate she never was without and glanced away to watch the truck and trailer pull up the driveway. "Just watch it, Malcolm. There's always a chance I unearth that filly or colt from Arizona again."
Malcolm snorted, ran a hand through his jet black hair. "Please, Marsh. I'd rather you find another Red Herring than a filly that we know isn't going to turn heads, on the track or in the breeding shed. Not to mention that God awful name of hers."
"Mmm. It's grown on me a little bit," Ripley murmured, her eyes glinting playfully. Pray For Pegasus was not a name any reporter would like to write a million times, but if she could run, they just might?
"And I know you like gathering families, but Coco Cabana? Really?"
Rolling her eyes, Ripley set her mug on the fence post. "Malcolm, since when did you become such a skeptic? I'm telling you Ferine is going to mature late and this one may be doing just the same."
The truck driver hailed the trainer and clambered down, covering his face with his mask. The creaking of the trailer door filled the air momentarily, wooing Ripley and Malcolm to the back. The first horse to peer over the barricade was a familiar one and brought a smile to both trainers' faces. The plain bay filly was strong, stout and muscular as hell get out and just as gorgeous as the day they'd bid adieu to her in the sale ring.
Malcolm took the lead rope from the driver, waiting patiently as he undid the latch. His rough hands stroked the filly's forehead and his blue eyes traveled every inch of her, looking for any deficiency that hadn't been there upon their goodbye. "Precieux looks marvelous," he remarked as he led her down the ramp.
Ripley couldn't help but agree. It wasn't often that she tried to sell a horse from the Touch Up lineage as they were near and dear to her heart for a bevvy of reasons. She'd hoped the best for this one, thought maybe she could commercialize just a little bit of the Touch Up bloodline. It wasn't meant to be. A winner of one HOTY race so far, Precieux could be on the precipice of good running. And Ripley did need a Triple Tiara candidate after all. She just had to get her in the races stat.
"Don't worry, Mal. I've got a plan for Prey. She's back and looks better than ever. I think we might just ship her out to The Wire tomorrow and get her on the track."
Once Mal passed the three year old off to an awaiting groom, Ripley climbed the ramp and greeted the final horse of the load. The bay filly's dainty head was marked with an imperfect star that glinted in the shady light of the trailer. Ripley could recall coming across the filly from time to time on the circuit and once again reminded herself that small horses could be just as fiery as the big, brawny elegant horses that she tended to like best. Pray For Pegasus was not a weedy, rangy sort. She was compact in spite of her delicate frame. Her dark eyes were tinged with mischief as she bobbed her head impatiently to be released. Ripley clipped the lead rope to the filly's halter and nodded for the driver to release them.
The filly pranced off the trailer, all spirit and class. Ripley took her in a circle before standing the filly up and inspecting her. "Firestone certainly has you in great shape, girlie."
And they did. Her coat gleamed under the dim sunlight. When she cast her head about, her neck muscles were tight and strong under the soft hide. She was bright, alert, confident. Her tiny frame reminded Ripley of a deer ready to spring. She could see the family resemblance between Pray For Pegasus and Ferine in the sharp head, but where Ferine was bulky and coltish, this four year old looked like a hothouse flower. She certainly didn't act nervy though and that, Ripley would work with.
"Who knew we'd be doing so much praying today?" Ripley said with a smirk. Her assistant rolled his eyes. "Certainly not I. She needs a different nickname or I'll have way too much confusion on our hands."
Ripley chuckled, stroked the filly's fine neck. "I'll leave it to you. Now, let's get her unwrapped and see what kind of horse she is in the barn."
