Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
May Y18 This horse was supposed to be dead. Samantha couldn't feel the off stride at the moment as the stallion straightened up for the long journey down the backstretch at Green Horse Fields, swinging wide to stay to the right of the orange cones marking off the inner turf course. He was ready to go and her arms felt sore already as she struggled to hold the high strung Thoroughbred back. Johnny was race ready, had been for about month and he was tired of being locked up or just turned out in a small paddock but that deformed foot was giving his trainer cause for concern. The hoof had grown back rather awkwardly and was slightly clubbed, even the farrier wasn't absolutely sure the horse should be raced and to give him yet another year to fully regrow the hoof. But they didn't have another year, Thorn needed to run, now.
And that he did. The half mile pole flashed by and Sam finally let the reins slide through her hands tentatively, the dark stallion eagerly took up the slack and extended his stride and now, she could feel that very strange almost jerking motion from the off front leg. She held onto him, just anticipating him taking a misstep and face planting, a mouthful of dirt, a broken neck, a dead horse. But he kept trucking along, moving faster and faster as he compensated for his misgivings and found his stride, leaning into the turn with his pilot now just along for the ride, sitting chilly in the saddle and doing nothing to impede him. Sam was sure had it been his near front leg things might have been different as most of the stallion's weight came down on that leg into the turn, swinging the other madly as if striking out at flies. They straightened up for the stretch drive and it felt as if he moved still faster, building up his confidence as they sped under the wire and she sawed back on the reins.
"Well, that was interesting." Frank didn't seem satisfied or disappointed when she cantered back to him, just intrigued, "He's fast as hell, though, even when it looks like he's running sideways."
June Y18 Greasy Creek's oldest racer was really impressing his small collection of fans at The Wire since winning his maiden race. However, his next run would come in the Fiery Speech Stakes at Battlestone Downs where he would unfortunately not quite take to the track the way we would have liked. Try as he might he simply couldn't seem to handle the surface all that well and it showed in his slower workout times. A check with his vet revealed no underlying problems so we just hoped for the best when sending him to the gates for his first grade five attempt on the fourth week of May. Keeping him sharp until this point had been easy, Johnny loved his job and took to it like a true champ.
Exhibiting his usual impressive turn of foot at the top of the stretch, he was flying home to the cheers of the crowd but sadly just came up short and had to settle for passing the winner in his gallop out to satiate his need to win that day. It was a good effort, though so for his third try it was back to his old stomping grounds for the Veritas Stakes where he would take on stiffer competition but Greasy Creek thinks he is ready for the test.
The turf course was too soft this morning so Johnny's work was moved to a surface he did well on, but had yet to race on. The Wire's dirt track was also fairly muddy but somewhat drier near the rail where Sam hoped to try and keep the strong willed horse as they made their journey round the oval. He felt pretty good today, getting into stride and going along nicely until once more Sam steadily let out a little more rein and felt the legs beneath her hit their signature loping gallop as he swung that clubbed foot along into the turn. He was blowing and pulling eagerly as he came a little wide into stretch and Sam heard the tempo of his footfalls change as he dug down into the mud and straightened up, finally kissing at him to give it his all and he responded beautifully. Galloping out past the wire he completed the eight furlong move in 1:39 and 2.
September Y18 Here’s looking to October. Ready for the cooler weather, Halloween, changing leaves and the impending Breeders’ Cup, a lanky black stallion cantered round to the homestretch with his chin pulled to his chest this brisk morning, fresh off a win in the Messenger Cup here last week. Greasy Creek’s oldest horse was really coming into his own after an impressive showing in the Autumn Cup Turf, closing like a freight train from dead last at the top of the stretch perhaps it was a move too little too late but it was a hell of an effort. Then, to follow that up with a win, it was more than his owner and trainer could ask for and this season was shaping up to be a good one for the war horse.
In a powerful surge off the far turn the dark stallion tucked into the rail and settled down for a drive as the reins were shaken at him, then pulled up just short of a full gallop, cruising the homestretch in comfortable time. He was the epitome of race fit as he was led away to be walked and hosed down, all legs with that lean and athletic physique. Even if his gait was a bit wonky with that misshapen hoof.
