02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄

08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e

07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!

When the Trumpet Sounds Rising Wonder - Kentucky Open Win
Rising Wonder, a The Rising son, hit the ground with a powerful start as juvenile back in Y15. There had already been high hopes for the Merry Bay King grandson (and look alike) after watching his half-sister Rise Me Gold dominate two legs of the Triple Tiara last year and continue going strong against fellow HOTY dirt champs. Last year Rising Wonder won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf with ease and took everything in stride. At the moment, he's the most powerful juvenile in KCRS' roster and it was a no brainer that the colt be directed towards the Turf Triple Crown.
The colt had been shipped off to Green Horse Fields racetrack over the weekend and John Murchison had already started going through the paces with the colt and making sure that he got both adequate exercise and rest. "He doesn't seem bothered at all by this attention" came the voice of one of the stablehands as he stealthily handed the colt a peppermint during his morning feeding that Monday. Head trainer John Murchison looked at the colt with admiration, the old man was in love with the red iron horse. Visitors had been frequented the front of Rising Wonder's stall in the afternoons and crowding around the workout track to watch him breeze in the mornings. The people wanted to see what a Breeders' Cup winner could accomplish when pushed for time as was the norm for the Triple series.
The colt chewed on his feed and bobbed his head when he discovered the peppermint. "That's because he's an attention-whore, he loves it when people are watching him. He also knows that if he does well in races, he'll get even more attention from his adoring fans." John rolled his eyes but had stepped forward to peer into the colt's stall. "Let's let him greet his fans this morning before his workout regime. That'll definitely get him going." John instructed but was smiling all the while as the groom waited for the colt to finish eating before clipping on his lead and taking him out of his stall. Rising Wonder's ears immediately pricked forward and he let out a loud, long whinny in greeting before bobbing his head. The boy was ready to start the day.
** Kentucky Open Day **
Kim Kenny had been nervously awaiting this day ever since the new year began and now she was even more nervous. Anything could happen with any race but the stakes were even higher now. The stableowner was sitting next to the trainer and was leaning forward in her seat to watch as the parade started for the gates. "Oh John, I'm so nervous! What if he spooks at the gate? What if he stumbles? What if--" The trainer hit the younger stableowner on the arm with the brochure he had in his hand.
"Calm down woman, Rising Wonder and Andy can handle themselves, they've been training for this for months - and they had a great teacher." The old man grinned from ear to ear but his enthusiasm did nothing for Kim's nerves. KC Racing needed another big win like this, they needed hope to get them through the remainder of this year. Rising Wonder was that candle in the dark illuminating the darkness and showing them the way. If something happened to that horse?
Kim was gripping her seat now, "They're in the starting gates." Rising Wonder had loaded up easily into the starting gate - like usual. John had taken note of the horse he trained but was watching one of the other favorites of the race - Hyperion - carefully. The other red colt was a direct son of Merry Bay King and ultimately related to Rising Wonder. He already knew that those two would not cut any corners to top one another.
Rising Wonder had broke clean and fast from the gate and found a comfortable lead position while the other horses followed suit. Kim could barely contain herself as she watched Rising Wonder then Hyperion and didn't realize that she had been clutching John's sleeve until he yanked his arm up. "Will you relax? Have faith in our boys." The trainer instructed as he gestured towards the horses coming into the home stretch.
The announcer was hyped up on the race as per usual, "Rising Wonder coming up in front towards the home stretch. Hyperion is following suit at dazzling speed! But Rising Wonder is putting extra lengths between them, he's maintaining the lead position! In My Remains is going through the motions but Takeover Bid is trying to make up for loss ground. Rising Wonder is four lengths ahead! Such speed and determination!"
And then Rising Wonder powered across the wire while the other horses followed suit. The colt had won the Kentucky Open - the first leg of the Turf Triple Crown. His owner, Kim Kenny let out a breath that she didn't know she had been holding. "Oh my god...oh my god! John, John they won!" She jumped up from her seat and cheered with the crowd and felt as though her heart would burst. John rose with her and embraced her feeling quite ecstatic himself.
The pair hurried down to the winner's circle to celebrate alongside Rising Wonder and Andy Hobbs. But everyone knew that this would be the beginning of the long haul.
But no matter the odds, they would still have faith.
