We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!

Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.

Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e

it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements. As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!

RISE TO THE CHALLENGE | DANGEROUS GAMES & UNSUNG HERO

Alexandria led the large black colt from his stall, careful to avoid the hooves that had began striking at the air in excitement. Hero's ebony mane tossed wildly as the colt threw his head side to side, and the stirrups on his saddle swung as the young colt danced beside his handler. Alexandria quickly corrected the colt with a yank of the lead and her hand went to his neck to settle him as they headed towards the track. At the opening in the track stood the muscular red bay colt and Sean sat upon him. Danny's seemed to be extremely occupied with watching the horses flying by on the rail but Sean watched as Alexandria led the black colt beside him before mounting up. "Have some trouble with him?" he chuckled with a crooked grin. Alexandria gave him a very obvious eye roll as she swung herself on top of her frisky mount. Immediately as her leg swung over him, he perked up excitingly and began prancing in place, apparently very excited to be out on the track.

Hero's perkiness caught Danny's attention and the colt tossed his head, dancing to the side in response. Immediately he settled as Sean stroked his neck and whispered, "Easy, boy." Hero was a little more of a handful on the other hand. No words or wiggling of fingers on the reins would settle him as he was raring to go; that was one of the young two year olds' only differences. Other than their difference in personality, they had quite a few similarities. They both loved to run and could go the distance on the dirt. They both were very large in stature as well, rippled in muscles and with strong, long legs that allowed them to have huge strides on the track. Danny tended to be more patient and obedient, while Hero was a little more of a wild child. He loved to run and he had a hard time hiding it. Danny was more reserved and wanted to please. He would listen to his jockey and wait until he was told to run to show off his pure enjoyment from it. Both were extremely talented and had a lot of promise for the future.

Alexandria fiddling with her mount who sidestepped beneath her, trying to make his way towards the rail where other horses flew past, called out to Sean, "Okay, we'll work four furlongs at a breeze. Just try to finish in about the same time." Sean nodded, getting up in the irons and pushing the beautiful bay colt into a slow gallop towards the rail. The colt quickly kicked up his feet in excrement before settling down waiting for his jockey's aids. Hero, on the other hand, gave a bit of attitude as he was upset that Danny had taken off before him. He bolted forward after the colt, tossing his head. Alexandria meditatively regained a hold on the black colt and sat back in the irons. "Quit," she whispered. His ears flicked back to hear her before he softened his mouth and listened to the firm hold, slowing beside his workmate.

Beginning their four furlongs, Hero began to settle now that he was on the rail, galloping. He slowed to sit near his work partner's hip. Danny's ears flicked back to listen to the black colt thundering next to him but he remained soft despite the threat, waiting for Sean's commands. As they breezed past the 1/2 pole and both riders asked for their horses to pick it up. Both horses jolted forward, happy to be asked for more speed. They traveledaround the turn at break neck speeds. Sean glanced in his peripherals to watch as Hero and Alexandria began to move up closer. Before they could catch up completely, Sean gave Danny another notch. Responding with a massive burst of speed, Danny charged onto the homestretch, leaving Hero and Alexandria behind. Immediately, Hero pushed forward, not waiting for Alexandria's asking. He did not like when horses pulled away and he was not going to let that happen easily. Hero regained his position near Danny's hip, pushing faster, ears pinned against his skull. Danny's ears met him with the same pinned nature and he attempted to charge forward faster towards the wire. Sean sat motionless, letting the colt run his own workout. Alexandria showed the whip in an attempt to get just a bit more out of her mount. Hero responded gamely and stretched his legs, nose now in line with Danny's.

They flew past the wire, nose and nose. As they slowed, Alexandria nodded, "Very impressive... they both ran very well." Sean nodded, smiling. The trainers were both pleased with their two year old colt's performances and believed they were ready to hit the track.
