Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
With June getting ready to roll in, we're proud to showcase the strongest juvenile class Valkyrie has ever had. With more early-season attention than we've been able to previously give, this crop is truly flourishing on all fronts.
The first runner by Augusto son Amarillo Sky and out of the good mare Bellefire, Mora has been a bit slow to start but she's been incredibly consistent and part of the conversation in practically every race she's been in. She most recently finished second in the FTH Turf Mile* after a 4th in the Cashcall Futurity*, and she seems to be finding her legs after breaking her maiden. While she's searching for that first HOTY win, she's still got a leg up on her sire, who was a late bloomer if there ever was one. She's been running over both surfaces, and doesn't seem to have a preference quite yet.
Bizzy was taken into Valkyrie later in the year, and while she had to play a bit of catch-up, she's rounded into form very nicely. Having just broken her maiden, she's probably going to try her hand in a small HOTY soon! Bizzy is half to the good filly Whattatwist through her dam, and we're hoping she'll find the same level of success. She's a good, freshly-lined filly for our breeding program, and we're very excited to see what she'll do.
Brilliantly bred, Cali took a frustratingly long time to break her maiden this year while racking up seconds like it was her job. Looking at her sire, though, it seems to be a trait of his foals to be a little later to mature. All things considered though, we feel that she's in a really good spot now that she's finally gotten that win. She's currently taking a short break, but she'll be back Week Four at The Wire in the Wild Straights Stakes*. Cali's best-known relations are probably on her dam's side, the miler Flawed Majesty and the up-and-coming filly Wayward Lass. This is the first filly we've gotten to race out of the mare, and we've got big plans for her if she keeps on the same path!
Flee is turning into quite the nice little horse and continues to improve while under saddle, but he's got a lot of growing to do before he makes his first start. It makes sense, given that Fifty in Front didn't do his best work until 3, so we're happy letting this colt grow up mentally and physically before getting him started.
We've always been excited about the prospect of a foal by Gallant Knight, and when it came time to pick the mare for that pairing, Enchantress was a no-brainer. Even with Gallant Knight being a freshman, unproven sire, his lines spoke for themselves. What we didn't expect was a colt that would excel in a year of inconsistency and strong competitors, but he's proven he's capable of that and more. Al has been a competitor in every race he's been in, and we'd be lying if we said we weren't having real Derby dreams for the first time since, well, Mourning Passion! But anyone that's been keeping up knows he'll have some competition for his father's star child, namely from his half-brother Gala Royale. One thing's for sure, though - Gallant Knight has slammed onto the scene as one of the top sires of the year!
Purchased from Montgomery Acres as a yearling, Malibu Star has been the most pleasant surprise now that she's running. She hasn't run in HOTY races since the early days, but she's about ready to be reintroduced after finishing first in her last two races. Star is so far the most successful foal of MA's flagship stallion Malibu King, and she's proven very versatile, winning over both surfaces. Her next race is Week Four in the Matron Stakes* at The Wire.
When we bred champion racehorse Mastermind to champion broodmare Requiem, how could we not have high hopes for him? But even then this colt has surpassed our expectations, again in a year where every win is to be cherished. While he's been somewhat more lightly raced than our other 2yos by a race or two, Masq has shown that he's every bit the star his breeding suggested he would be. He's already won major races such as The Wire Finish Cup Juvenile Mile* and the Magic Millions Colts Dirt Sprint*, showing that he excels over both surfaces and at both sprints and stretched to a mile. This colt's got a big and bright future ahead, and we're just thrilled to be along for the ride.
Neph isn't totally sure what he wants to do with himself yet, but that's alright. We assumed he'd excel over the dirt as his champion dam did, but he seems to have taken a preference for turf. And while he's very consistent even in large undercards, so far he's flopped on HOTY race days. However, we see this as something that can be worked on. He'll get more comfortable with big races the more he's in them, and as long as he shows us he still has a willingness, we'll keep plugging along and see what he wants to do. He's slated to run next in an undercard at BSD, and he'll be heading for another HOTY if he runs well there.
The third of the Valkyrie juveniles to hit G4 in recent weeks, Hera has been an absolute credit to her dam. We shouldn't have expected anything else, as we so thoroughly enjoyed leasing Sweet Inferno during her BC-winning year, but even without the overwhelming expectations this filly has fully proven her pedigree. She's won four races against strong opponents and huge fields, including the Magic Millions Fillies Dirt*, and solidly put herself as a frontrunner in the dirt filly division.
Our gutsy pickup from Colorado, Snow Snake has shown that his weak pedigree holds nothing against a strong heart. While he's only nabbed one win, his strong second-place finishes in large fields have shown that he has the talent, even if he's thus far petered out in HOTY company. We'll likely give this boy some time in the undercards before trying him in HOTY company again unless a prime field pops up.
While we didn't have a hand in breeding this colt, we were so excited to pick him up in co-ownership with Stride of Perfection Stables at the beginning of the year. Being the first foal of Dare To Impress, we were absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to help him get his career rolling. And rolling he is! After getting very consistent in the undercards, this colt won his first race in HOTY company in the Foolish Lad's Marathon Challenge, turning back challengers to ace the 12 furlong turf test. Both of his wins have been at 12 furlongs, though we believe he's plenty capable of winning under that. He's running again this week at The Wire in the Lexus Raven Run Stakes*.
A freshly lined filly with a bigger chip on her shoulder than she knows what to do with, Winter has proven that pedigree does not a champion make. She's blown by her competitors in four races this year, including most recently in the Follow The Hoofprints Turs Sprint*. She's stayed perfect in consistency so far this year, a feat in and of itself, and she's really showing what Valkyrie is all about. She's earned a well-earned break for the rest of the month, and after that she'll be right back at it with the top dogs in the division.
All we can say about this boy is that what he lacks in consistency he makes up for with explosiveness. This colt was a pleasant surprise, winning his debut in a HOTY race, and while he hasn't found the winner's circle since, he's had some very good placings in tough fields. While we're still working out what makes him tick, it's obvious that when he's on he's all heart, and when he's decided he's not having a good day, he's really going to have a horrible one. It leads us not to have high expectations going into a particular race while we can have huge expectations for his career as a whole! Being the first son of In Front to race, we're at least glad to say he's not completely embarrassing his well-bred sire.
