BREEDERS' CUP TURF MARATHON*Merry Bay King grandson and dedicated rival to Stride of Perfection's Hyperion, Rising Wonder is quite the horse. He won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf last year with class and came back this year to win the Kentucky Open* (TTC), 2nd in the Preakness Champion Stakes* (TTC) and 3rd in the Belmont Turf Classic* (TTC). Currently he's being directed to the turf distance series in preparation for the turf marathon and he's recently won the Virginia Derby. This colt is a turf monster and was elected Best Grade 3 in North America last year. He's just shy of $6M in earnings and his career has only just started kicking in. He's proved he can run with older horses and isn't afraid to flex his muscle out there on the track.
BREEDERS' CUP DISTAFF*
The Rising daughter and winner of two legs of the Triple Tiara with a near-miss second finish in the Mother Goose Stakes*, Rise Me Gold is the light of our life here at KC Racing. She has left huge footsteps for her little half-brother (Rising Wonder) to fill but they seem to be going leaps and bounds on their respective surfaces, Rise Me Gold herself having earned $5M over the course of her career. She's been challenged by KC Racing graduate, Enrapture, and managed to net a win over her among other hard-hitting dirt mares this year. Rise Me Gold has spent all of Y18 against these mares, and has even come up against the likes of Luna de Soltera, a rival in her bid for the Tiara back in 2017. Rise Me Gold tried for the Distaff last year and finished fourth but she's done nothing but learn and grow since then so we have nothing but love and admiration for our girl no matter where she places.e
BREEDERS' CUP FILLY AND MARE SPRINT*
Icarus Flight will be our contender for the Filly and Mare Sprint. This beautiful girl had a powerful first place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies last year and has since been amping up her sprinter game all this season. She's placed in 30 of her 33 starts, 16 of them being wins in HOTY races save for two. She won a leg of the Triple Sprinter Tiara (Starshine Sprint*) and came second in another (Shining Stakes*) before wowing us with a win in a leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara, the Bison City Stakes*. She's an incredibly versatile mare and next year we hope to expand her reach as both a sprinter and miler. For now, she's been getting hyped up about the Breeders' Cup and we're right there with her.
BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE FILLIES TURF*
Foolish Lass has seen her share of HOTY races and though she may have struggled a few times, she's quite familiar with the competition and will have probably encountered plenty of the other fillies heading into the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf. She's an incredibly consistent filly, however, and encountering this sort of competition will put her into a more competitive mindset for when she starts her three year old campaign.
BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE FILLIES*
Much like with Foolish Lass, The Huntress will be entering the BC Juvenile Fillies so that she may gain some noteworthy HOTY experience in preparation for her three year old season. She's been nestled safely in the undercards up until this point so we hope this will encourage her to have more bite to her running style when tackling new horses come next year.
BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE SPRINT*
You knew this one was coming, didn't you? Speedy Tomcat! This boisterous colt took us by surprise by just how classy and steadfast he is when it comes down to being put to work on the track. He's placed in 10 HOTY races out of his 16 starts, 5 of them being wins with even a win in the competitive Azalea Cup Colts**. We were blessed to be able to acquire this colt's sire earlier this year and here's to hoping that this colt will make quite the splash come BC time because if so, there might be a full sibling in the works!
BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE TURF*
Truth Teller hails from a strong turf family and he's had some trouble finding his footage throughout his two year old season. Granted, we've decided to continue as planned with the colt's entry into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf. He's used to this level of competition as it will all be juveniles he's seen before during his HOTY races so we're sure he'll know what to expect and be able to handle the pressure.
BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE*
Mardi Gras and Partyatthedisco's full brother, Party O'War will be making an appearance at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile this year. He's been whipped around by his competition as of late but he once had the HOTY mindset of a primed racehorse. We're hoping that this race will set him back into high spirits so that he may continue his racing career for years to come.
BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE TURF SPRINT*
We only just acquired Wannabe Royal from ROI but he's already showed excellent progress as the months went by. We'll be edging him towards a few HOTY races to get his feet wet come November and for him, the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint will be for him to get the gist of the experience before tackling his three year old season in 2019.
BREEDERS' CUP SPRINT*
A toss-up to say the least, but we'll be entering both the 3 year old Turbocharged and 4 year old Deathflash's Truth into the sprint. Turbocharged is in the early parts of his career so he'd do well to take note of the field in preparation for next year's races once he turns four. Deathflash's Truth has never been to the Breeders' Cup but we decided to flip the house upside down and give him a chance against some hard-hitting competition.
