2018 has been a pinnacle year for KC Racing. Since we first opened our doors back in the fall of 2015, we've improved tremendously since first starting out with our beloved Muggathugga. We've gone from a three horse racing string to a 17 horse string (25 come the new year!) and we've had a good deal of solid HOTY horses and two Breeders' Cup winners since then.

Of course, in the midst of tried and true stables, KC Racing's bid for greatness is often buried as we've gone from complete rags to not quite riches, but something at least similar to business casual. But we're not in the game for the fame, we're in it for the love of our horses and they've showed KCRS colors with a vigor this year.

Here is KC Racing Stables in rewind for 2018!

The Juveniles

SPEEDY TOMCAT became a powerhouse seemingly overnight and has done both his sire and cousins (the likes of HOF Mastermind and HOF Demonic Desires) proud. This handsome Speed Demon grandson has HOTY placed in 12 of his 19 starts - which includes the BALLET BALL FUTURITY** (Sprint Series), AZALEA CUP COLTS**, RUSHY RUSH RUSH STAKES** (Sprint Series) and even the ORCHID CUP COLTS**. Tomcat is sure to end the year with a bang as he's running at the G3 level and has earning almost 1.5M in earnings. He'll finish out the year strong in his debut in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint.

SUPERBAD came back to us and has been in a 3 month layoff which prompted us to get her back into training as soon as possible. The juvenile year is critical for some horses and we didn't want this girl to go sour and miss out on a career in racing. She'll return to undercards as a three year in January before being considered for the summer sale in 2019.

FOOLISH LASS has a strong turf family backing thanks to her sire, Foolish Lad although this girl has proven to be just a bit slow to mature. She's placed in 2 HOTY races, but she's made it clear that she's not too gung-ho about that level of competition and has settled back happily into undercards for now. She'll be taking a break with her other stablemates at Kennington Stud until January.

PARTY O'WAR has tried his absolute best to get up there with the tough competition but much like his stablemate he's enjoyed the undercards a bit more. We were hoping he'd turn out like his older sister, Partyatthedisco but dreams don't always come true of course. We aim to let him mature more fully in his three year old season before being considered for HOTY competition again as a four year old. Trainer John Murchison has even considered gelding the colt so who knows where the next year will take this youngster. He'll be taking it easy during December at KS until January.

THE HUNTRESS went out for a very brief lease with Valkyrie Stud before coming back to us and she seems content with staying in undercards for now. She's a fairly consistent filly and we don't want to push her and kick her out of her groove. She'll be wintering out December at Kennington Stud before returning to the track in January.

TRUTH TELLER was one of the colts we had had extremely high hopes for with not only his stellar breeding but lovable personality. It's been a little touch and go with him during his first year on the track as he's placed in 5 HOTY races this year. He seems to really like the mile, however, so we plan to condition him strictly into the mile range next year and see if he fairs better.

WANNABE ROYAL was acquired from REI earlier this year at auction. Honestly, we had thought of him as just a pretty face when he first graced our stables but this colt has more than proven that he has a lot of heart to go along with that. He's not quite a hard hitting HOTY horse just yet but we believe he has it in him to eventually grow into that role.

The 3 Year Olds

LOUISIANA BLUES had been one of the fillies we had leased out while we had been trying to get some things together in RL and after the inactivity of her leasee we were able to bring this girl back home. Lu is the type of horse that one can easily forget about and when you do, she'll come back to bite you in the ass out on the track. We don't run her as hard as some of our horses but she shapes up rather nicely as this year she won the Summer Cup G4 Dirt* and came second in the Seaspray Cup G4 Dirt* and Brevity Oaks*, finishing the year out as a G4 before getting a well-deserved break during December out at Kennington Stud before returning to the track in January.

ICARUS FLIGHT is the star sprinter of KC Racing and we're proud to be able to call her that. She started the year strong and we're hoping she can finish it strong with an appearance in the Breeders Cup* in December. This year she won 7 HOTY races that includes the Starshine Sprint* (Triple Sprinter Tiara) and Bison City Stakes* (Canadian Triple Tiara) and came second in the Shining Stakes* (Triple Sprinter Tiara)*. She made G1 this year and has now earned just over $3M in earnings. 

OH THE IRONY had a rough year last year after suffering a slight fracture that put her out of racing after running only 7 starts until the new year rolled in. She's since recovered completely from that and only placed out of the money once this year with 7 wins to her name, giving her the G3 ranking. 

RISING WONDER is the other half to Rise Me Gold, the little brother that packs a punch. He's risen to G1 this year and has now accumulated $6M in earnings making him the highest earning horse for KC Racing to date. This year he won 7 HOTY races that includes the Kentucky Open* (Turf Triple Crown), Virginia Derby* (Turf Distance Series) and Virginia Derby* (Turf Distance Series) and came second in the Maryland Derby* (Turf Distance Series) and French Derby* and third in the Belmont Turf Classic* (Triple Turf Crown). He's fought valiantly against not only his cousin but also rival - Hyperion from the get go and we know for a fact that that rivalry won't stop there. He is a brilliant horse and only placed out of the money once this year and we can only expect great things from him here on out.

TURBOCHARGED came back to a few months before Superbad that but we're happy to have him back home. He's a bit of a poster child for his sire, having placed in 7 HOTY races this year and came third in two legs of the Triple Sprinter Crown. He's finishing the year out as a G2 and we're still debating on whether or not he'll have one last start this year in December before breaking.

WHATTATWIST is a recently made purchase for KC Racing as we realized that we didn't have any turf sprinter fillies. We don't have this girl's lines and she's a pretty solidly consistent gal from start to finish. We're happy to have her in our ranks and we're breaking her until January to start fresh as a four year old in our colors.

The 4 Year Olds

DEATHFLASH'S TRUTH was planned to be retired at the end of the year but those who have interest in him preferred to see him continuing his career on the track so here this boy is. He's had something of a light career up until this point and it seemed like he spent this year getting back into the groove of being worked hard time and time again. He's just shy of G1 and we hope to have him hitting HOTY full force sometime next year with the hopes of the tried and true veterans retiring this year.

HELLAGOOD has had a solid year, only placing out of the money twice and even placing in a few HOTY races. We aim to run him a little harder next year and get him going full force so that he has the potential of becoming a threat to other sprinters.

RISE ME GOLD was the star of KC RACING last year and still is today. She's had her ups and downs this year but we blame that on her diva like attitude of doing what she wants, when she wants as she's an incredibly ambitious horse. She won 6 HOTY races and came second in 6 others. Last year she came forth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff and we're thinking that she aims to come back with a vengeance this year and claim what she's been hankering for since last year.

ROUGH BOY has definitely had it rough but it's clear that he doesn't want to throw in the towel quite yet. He's a bit similar to Deathflash's Truth, except at a longer distance and is trying his best to please everyone around him. We're not going to push him too hard into HOTY as he's such a lovable boy and wants to run just like everyone else but doesn't have that bite to push past the heavy hitters when they gang up on him.
