Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
I apparently forgot to officially do these, so just so there's record:
Horse Credit: Ash Zee
Basics Name: Winter YOB: Y16 Gender: Filly Color: Grey (bay-based) Height: 16.2hh Pedigree: Winter Wind (CR) x Lady Lichen (CR)
Personality: Winter personifies the sharper side of the season - the brisk wind, the biting cold, the chilliness that pulls the very warmth from your bones. Winter was born in northern Canada in January, ill-timed in the middle of a blizzard. She grew up in deep snow drifts and biting temperatures, but she never seemed very bothered by it. After being imported to Valkyrie, she seemed to miss the harsh winters - they joked that that was why she was so moody and bitter all of the time. She's not really as bad as she's sometimes made out to be, but she's definitely not a pet or altogether friendly horse to be around. Tolerant is probably the best description of her attitude toward humans. There's no outright disdain, but there's also no love in her heart for them. She will stand to be approached in a field, but she'll never come to you on her own. She handles being groomed to an extent, as long as it's done quickly and matter-of-fact. She'd rather die than stand to have her mane pulled, so the staff just cut it and keep it braided on race day - ugly in the field, but she's happy with it. The filly is a cribber, but it hasn't been much of an issue - she seems to hate other horses much more than she hates humans, so she has a paddock to herself and doesn't spread her behavior. She seems to overall not handle pain from humans very well, so crops, twitches, and lip chains are completely out of the question or she'll do everything in her power to bail. Whip or no whip, though, Winter's got some serious leg on the track. While she might not like the warmer weather of the states in general, she takes to good turf like a shark to ocean. She's wickedly fast and dangerously competitive - she's not afraid of anything.

Basics Name: Snow Snake YOB: Y16 Gender: Colt Color: Grey (bay) Height: 15.3hh Pedigree: Venom (CR) x Blizzard Walk (CR)
Personality: Snake, though his name in itself should suffice, is best described as 'waspy'. Snake came to us from a small breeding operation in Colorado, where they emphatically told us the story of their famous little colt who was bitten by a rattlesnake when he was a few months old - then immediately turned and trampled it, in front of enough witnesses to make him a local legend. It was by some stroke of luck a dry bite, as the colt never showed symptoms of poisoning and since gained status as being a tough little devil. All of this was learned by Valkyrie at a small yearling sale, and though they had had their eye on the unblooded colt to begin with, the tenacious toughness the colt exuded sealed the deal. The farm Snake grew up on had a little bit of everything - livestock, large machinery, small children running around and dogs barking constantly. Because of that he's practically bomb-proof, never flinching at new things or spooking at anything. It's pretty obvious, then, when he just doesn't WANT to do something, because he's not actually scared of it. For example, he hates the vet and everything that comes with him. He knows the sound of his truck, the sound of his coveralls, the sound of his voice - and he'll immediately become impossible to catch in a field and ornery in a stall. He also hates to be tacked, though he doesn't seem to even notice it once it's actually on. It must be the process itself. He'll put his head high in the air when being bridled and squeals and kicks if he's girthed too quickly. He's fussy every time he's groomed. But he's not sour all the time. When the air turns brisk he becomes a foal, rolling and squealing and sprinting around his paddock. He likes being around other horses, even if they aren't in the same paddock. He's comfortable as long as he can just see them. Snake is a tough, tough horse, and can stand unflinching while a wound or hematoma is poked, prodded, and examined. He's never so much as gone lame on an abscess, which means his feet need to be checked constantly - they'd get infected before his pain tolerance told anyone there was a problem. It also means that the normal aches and pains of a racehorse are nothing to him - he can get bumped around, smacked inadvertently with a whip, anything during a race, and he won't so much as flinch. He's a competitor through and through, fighting like a bull and never backing down from a challenge. That tenacity and soundness is sure to show throughout a long racing career.
