Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
Basics Name: Cactus Crunch YOB: Y16 Gender: Colt Color: Black Height: 15.2hh Pedigree: Cactus Jack x Thorny Rose - Foundation
Personality: - "Crunch" is a level headed, although belligerent, colt thus far in his racing career. He is coming along quite nicely despite his small stature and Greasy Creek hopes to get him up to speed soon enough to get a few races under his cinch before he heads into his three-year-old campaign. He still runs a little green, swings wide off the turns and ducks in toward the rail seeming to believe he is actually a greyhound, but further training is sharpening him up and we feel confident once he figures himself out and matures a little, he can be a quality, high caliber colt. Typical tack includes a flash nose band, egg butt snaffle and hood with French cup blinkers to keep him focused.
Basics Name: Coyote Ugly YOB: Y16 Gender: Filly Color: Chestnut Height: 15.3hh Pedigree: Foundation x Foundation - Foundation
Personality: - "Violet" is the barn's fiery redhead, when she's hot she's smokin' and when she's not, well she's been known to act up so badly that her training for the day was cancelled. She kicks, bucks, rears and backs out of the gates when schooling and refuses to extend when asked. There seems to be no indication of what exactly sets her off on her bad days. She has shown great progress over the last few months though and her maturation level is bringing her ever closer to her first start on a real track. At the moment the focus is on dirt as both her parents were dirt horses, she has galloped on the grass but not much else. Violet also seems to have an affinity for softer going, particularly mud so it doesn't seem as though an off track is going to be any trouble for her in the near future of her hopefully bright racing career. Tack: flash noseband, eggbutt double broken snaffle.
Basics Name: Panhandle Slim YOB: Y15 Gender: Colt Color: Bay Height: 16.3hh Pedigree: Cactus Jack x Black Bonnie - Foundation
Personality: - "Slim" exudes professionalism and the excitement in getting him to the track is forever increasing as he turns in faster and faster works on the morning tracks, thundering through the fog and breezing past the quarter pole. He always tries his hardest, is very honest and does what he's asked when he's asked, if you tell him to jump his next move is to ask "how high" he is a push button horse if GCT ever saw one. In the stables he is quiet, taking to lying down for a nap rather than pacing his stall. When he is up and about he likes to catch passers by with an outstretched nose, begging for scratches or treats. He does occasionally reach out and grab people who are within range and pulls them to his stall door if they aren't paying any attention to him. It can be seen as quite rough but he means nothing by it, Slim is just very demanding. His tack is very minimal, no leg wraps for one, no noseband and a Dexter ring bit.
Basics Name: Grizzly Rose YOB: Y15 Gender: Filly Color: Gray (bay) Height: 16.1hh Pedigree: Valhallen (CR) x Thorny Rose - Foundation
Personality: - "Rose" is a tough ol' bird and as her coat fades, her potential only seems to be growing. Every time she routes the circuit at The Wire for her morning work, her trainer is left smiling. It's like whittling wood, every little sliver may seem small but it only brings the project closer and closer to the masterpiece it was meant to be. For GCT, Rose may just be that once in a lifetime filly it has been waiting for. She's high strung and a little hardheaded, likes to pull her rider around the track and refuses to let her workout partner stick even a nostril in front. Seems to have the makings of a front runner and her stamina has been rated for up to a mile and a quarter. As both her sire and dam were dirt horses, Rose has not been tested on the grass and seems to like deeper, softer going. Usual tack; rubber jointed Dexter ring bit, shadow roll, hood with French cup blinkers.
Basics Name: Steeldriver YOB: Y14 Gender: Gelding Color: Bay Height: 16.2hh Pedigree: Foundation x Foundation
Personality: - "Steel" is one cool customer and seems to take everything in stride, pun intended. Sharpening him up for his late start on the track has included equipping him with a shadow roll and blinkers because he focuses on everything except what is in front of him sometimes. He walks easily into the starting gates but then leans on the back doors. Quickening his break has proven fruitless, he likes to just trot from the gates putting him far behind the field early on so instead focus has gone into building up his stamina to give him plenty of time to catch up to everyone. Anything over nine furlongs and he's good to go, hanging at the back until firing his pistons and circling the field. If the pace sets up for him we're confident he can run down the field in the stretch, only racing him a few times will tell. Tack: Dexter ring bit, FLAIR nasal strip, shadow roll and hood with French cup blinkers.
Basics Name: Mesquite Heat YOB: Y14 Gender: Filly Color: Chestunt Height: 16.1hh Pedigree: Cactus Grinder x Bring The Heat (CR)
Personality: - "Heat" is a fun horse, the track rats really like her and coming up with all the puns to describe her breezes; sizzler, on fire and burning it up are among our favorites. She loves her job and as she has matured to a sturdy four year old she has only gotten better and better, she's strong and level headed, listens well to her jockey and works well with her exercise riders. It seems that she aims to please and just hasn't had an off or bad day since we procured her. She is just one of those once in a lifetime horses and even if she's a dud she has the pedigree to produce some awesome foals once retired. Tack: eggbutt snaffle, hood with modified French cup blinkers, the backs are cut out to give her a view of horses coming up from behind her.
Basics Name: Bushwhacker YOB: Y14 Gender: Stallion Color: Dark Bay Height: 16.1hh Pedigree: Cactus Jack x Dixie Queen - Foundation
Personality: - "Johnny" wants a job quite badly, he gets bored easily and starts pacing in his stall when it's clear other horses are being trailered to a race. We hate to leave him behind but after numerous setbacks he is five years old without a single start to his name unfortunately. He is an emotional and sensitive animal that wants to feel useful and even when turned out he will come to the gate hours later and just stand there waiting for someone to come and get him. He's a prankster and has freed himself from paddocks and stalls numerous times, likes to fill his mouth with water from his bucket and then drench people as they walk past, tries to spook other horses being led out of the barn by kicking his stall door, the list is never ending. He's bored and boredom breeds mischief. When GCT reacquired him he was pretty nasty, stalled for months while recovering from a mishap while under the care of his previous owner, Johnny was aggressive and lunged at people who walked by him in the shed row. With some turnout time and exercise, he has settled in rather nicely and when he hits the track it becomes clear he knows when to play and he knows when it's time to get down to business. The sooner we get him race ready the better. Tack: flash noseband, leather bit, hood with no blinker on right eye and full scoop blinker over the left.
Second, just a couple of things. First, 12 furlongs is the max distance preference. So the 10-14 would need to be a 9-12 for max distance ability. Second, some of these horses are short on furlongs. Which is fine, if you want to do it that way, but it limits the available races for them. For example, the 9-11 horse can be 8-11 or 9-12. Third, for the horses that have one parent specified and 'Foundation' for the other, it would probably be best just to make something up! Our create horses tend to have Horse Name (CR) x Horse Name (CR) if they're going to have parent names. This is an example. Otherwise though, they look good!
