Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
REI issued a press statement today that they've been working on some training changes for several of their NDM racehorses.
Revenge Of The Angels is the first really consistent miler we've had. We began her out on turf, but made the decision to give her a dual so she could give dirt a whirl as well and fill in some gaps we've had. She surprised us by pulling off a HOTY win on dirt! So we'll be testing her out more on that surface, but it feels to us like she is equally capable.
Creekside is a possible contender for the sprinter tiara, we're still watching her next few races to see if she'll have the guts to take on the likes of Earthly Witch. Although she isn't a solid HOTY runner, we did notice her desire to stretch, so we tacked on an extra furlong length for her to reach up to. We'll keep her a sprinter for the most part, but she does seem to work well at the mile position.
Amun-Ra we purchased at the New Years sale from Crimson Racing, and have been happy to work with fresh lines. We got a little frustrated at times when we went to enter this former 6-9 runner to find out that he hadn't been trained at the 5F distance. So we've taken some time and extended him to get there, as well as to 10F as well. We've been exploring more into the miler range, and with his pedigree we feel he'll be a colt to help us push into that area more.
Flitcraft was a young colt who we originally pegged to be a miler. He's been a decent boy for us so far this year, but we feel he's been inching up more for the longer distances, and evaluating his pedigree more carefully indicated to us that he may be more fulfilled racing router distances. So we've extended him in hopes he'll transition to enjoying the freedom to stretch out further.
Waldemar came to us from the recently closed Montgomery Acres, and took the change of scenery quite well! We're super happy with this turf colt so far this season. Although he doesn't look like he'll take on a sprinter crown, we might put him in one leg for some experience and fun. We made the choice to train him over dirt. It can be tricky to try a more established racer on another surface, but we wanted to give him some fresh new challenges to keep him occupied until his senior season. He's going well for us, but he doesn't quite feel as if he's fully ready for HOTY. That being said, we but we don't want him to get bored at undercards! So some fresh faces over dirt might be just what he needs.
Ghost is the most recent recipient of new training. He's been sluggish for us, and spends half of his races ending out of the money. He did win two competitions this year, but he still isn't firing up as much as we'd hoped after his more disappointing juvenile year. We worked with his jockey Evander Thorne and have come to the firm belief that given his size at 17 hands this boy is just unhappy with short sprints. He doesn't like to pull back and end running so quickly. We've put some new training on him to extend out, and he's really loving being able to go 9 and 10 furlongs now! He relishes getting more room to gallop, and he seems much happier getting more of the track to eat up. So you'll be seeing this boy out and about at the mile and over range from now on - we may find him a 7F sometimes to mix things up, but we're really hoping he finds his hooves by the end of the season with something new to try.
