Fresh Faces and Old Timers of Windsor
John and Helen Winston acquired a few new racing ponies from the July Y18 sale. New to them, but a couple were old horses of Holly Montgomey's. The head trainer of Windsor is highly happy to see a couple old faces in her barn. She is thrilled to begin training for the newcomers.
Fresh FacesKosmodor: Holly was happy to see the striking bay colt again. She practically raised him since birth as he was almost lost to death when he was born back at Stonegate Stud. His first race back under her hands, he finished last, but she isn't giving up on this guy anytime soon.
"Kosmo still has alot of growing up to do. He is a whirlwind of emotions right now. Just going to take it easy on him and let him find his own ground. He is showing some promise in his workouts. He should find his flair again as he continues to steadily race again. Be sure to keep an eye out for this colt. Once he gets the footing he needs, he will be one to be hard to beat.
Jersey Glory: Holly fell hard in love over the copper-coated filly. Jersey seemed to have her own special place at home with her trainer. She has settled in perfectly well at Windsor since her trailer ride up north from KC Racing Stables. Now, back to her old training routine, she seems to require a little bit more work but Holly explained the filly is just getting started.
Jersey likes to run as she seems suited. She is training fairly well and is still young and has that baby spirit. I believe she will really make a turn around by the end of the season and I feel she will turn it into a great and successful three year old campaign next year. She just needs a little bit more time to find herself. So be on the lookout for this filly. She could turn into a winning machine at any time.
Insolence: A newcomer for Holly and the Winstons, Solo has been quite the demanding soul. She always seems to get what she wants and she can be a bit scatter-brained. Lightly raced and not yet raced this year, she seemed to have a flourishing juvenile campaign. Now, it is time to see how she will fair as a three year old and since she's been off the track since November of Y17.
I really like this filly. I think she shows alot of promise. We have been patient with her and she's been coming around nicely. I have turned her out for some dressage practice just to get her ground manners back on track. That fire is somewhere inside her. It may take her a little bit to get back into the swing of things, but she has certainly turned around nicely with her training with us, so far. Solo is set to make a great comeback as a three year old.
Old TimersWindsor also has those horses who have been at the game for a while, but just haven't found their spot for consistent racing and winning.
Over Time: Finally pulling in a win July Week 2 after having only one win back in June of last year, Vera's future as a racehorse has been on a fine line. Holly had thought about retiring the filly come her four year old season, feeling she was just not cut out to be a racehorse. The line is still there, but Holly feels maybe she will turn around as a four year old next season.
Vera is quite stubborn. But she always does what is asked of her. She has never let anyone down. I know she has been through a few homes, but her forever home will be here at Windsor. She likes the surroundings and enjoys her pasture mates. She is a very focused runner and I hope this win can give her a new perspective on her racing game. She will certainly be one to keep your eye on.
Celestia: One win from Grade One status and 3 races away from her 60th start, Celestia has been a longtime running horse for Holly. She adores this mare. She had been tried a few times in HOTY races, but never really found her spark in those caliber races. She has been an undercard horse. Holly plans on retiring her upon her Grade One winning race, but she has been thinking of keeping the mare on until the end of the season as she has been pretty consistent this season.
Tia seems to have hit her prime in her racing career. She has been one of those horses who has her good days and bad days. She has more good than bad. She still has that running spirit and I hope to keep her on till the end of the season. She will let us know when it is her time to hit the pasture. We will just hold back and see. The mare is scheduled for her first cover being Y19 with Muggathugga.
Bulletproof: Bullet was the mare that started putting Montgomery Acres on the map and she continues to have a reigning streak for Windsor. Holly brought her in as a three year old when the filly wasn't suited to run as a two year old. The now five year old mare has really sparked under Holly's hands and continues to do so. She is just a couple wins from Grade One and Holly couldn't be any happier.
Bullet has really come along way in these two seasons of racing. I am quite excited to see her start her broodmare career. She is going to make the most perfect momma. I can't wait till that time comes. She has never let me down. The mare is scheduled for cover for a Y19 foal with Windsor Stud's very own Predator.
