Races close on Mondays at 9PM EST! Our Next Sale Begins: January Y22.
02/05/23 We're almost ready to kick off the New Year here at Final Furlong! The New Years Sale is still OPEN for bids - lots of ponies needing homes! As well, we're hoping to close January Week One races by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6. However, if we need to extend closing date so more people can get entered, just let us know in the Discord. In addition to getting your pages ready, don't forget to use your bonus points if you'd like!
01/29/23 Congratulations to KENREN for winning the Y21 Breeders' Cup Betting Contest! You've won a breeding reserve to FIFTY DREAMS (Firestone Stud) and 2x 2 furlong extensions + 5 bonus horse points! Lolly finished 2nd, and Cruisey finished 3rd.
12/08/22 The Breeder's Cup Betting Contest will make a return for Y21!!! It'll be a little bit different because of the new points system, but get ready for some end of year fun 😄
11/21/22 Entries for the New Year Sale are now open! We know it seems a bit early, but with life things we're going to need time to make sure things are right lol. Please follow the link here: https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2304/y22-new-year-sale
08/20/22 Judging has been the basis for issues for a long time - taking too long, drama regarding results, bias, etc. Kenren has attempted to put a points system together that keeps the spirit of our system while streamlining and standardizing the process. It's a lot to take in, but once you get in the swing of it, preparing pages with these points takes way less time than doing a layout change lol! If you have any questions, please post them in the judging-help channel on Discord for now. If anyone needs help with anything, please let an admin know! We would like to give everyone one week to get things settled, and then we would like to run July Wk 2 using this system closing 8/27/22 (or earlier if everyone is ready). If it works out, we would like to run two game weeks per RL week to get things moving! Thank you all so much for being her!e
07/27/22 To start July off fresh, we've been playing around with a new theme for Final Furlong! Make sure to check out 'Sonorous' under your profile ❤️ Feel free to use whatever theme works best for yourself. We can't wait to get back to racing!
07/21/22 it's official! We're back! It looks like June Wk 4 was almost fully judged, so make sure you get that updated if you hadn't! We will plan to close the next week (July Wk 1) on Thursday, August 4th. This close day may change, but it's not a bad place to start! For now we'll be doing one game week per RL week to get back into things. Please remember that starting the second half of the year, 3yos can compete against older horses without automatic lower placements.
As an aside, because this is fairly sudden after a whole year, we will not be allowing reclaims on horses for members not currently active for a few months. We will readdress this going forward if needed. Thank you all for understanding!
07/08/22 GO answer the poll ❤️ https://final-furlong.proboards.com/thread/2232/ff-restart-poll
AMARILLO BANDIT && JUSTIN MCKINNEY PALACE OF FIRE && DELILAH HANSEN
He was a brute, through and through.
The Amarillo Sky colt was a handsome horse, but he was all work and no play. Even as a yearling fresh out of the sales ring from the 2018 Summer Sale, AMARILLO BANDIT wanted nothing to do with the other youngsters when he came home.
Roughhousing with other colts his age, running the fences? No interest. John Murchison even suggested starting ground work with the colt a bit earlier because this colt preferred to be busy then out in the paddock or in his stall and the boy learned fast.
It was another day where he'd be going through a simple workout except this time the dirt track was sloppy and it was accompanied with a light drizzle. "This is nasty weather." Justin complained as he adjusted his goggles to prevent mud from getting in his eyes as he held onto the large colt's reins.
Bandit was strong with a conformation reminiscent of his sire but an attitude passed down from his grandsire - Augusto. "Quit complaining, Bossman here loves this kind of weather."John mentioned as he gestured to the colt as he was prancing about and giving the jockey a difficult time.
The colt loaded easy into the gates and as soon as they opened the colt lurched forward and almost unseated his rider before the jockey righted himself and held on tight.
Bandit seemed to dance on the otherwise muddy ground and didn't even lose his footing as he glided across the track, nose flaring as he pushed forward without complaint. When Justin asked for more speed, the colt gave without warning and if he were asked to keep giving, the colt would give and give until his heart gave out if someone let him.
As they passed where John was standing, the colt kicked up mud that dirtied the trainer's jacket, causing him to curse under his breath. But the colt was fast, and he was nasty but he loved this kind of work and could care less about playing hard, he came to do business and then some.
While Bandit was making his rounds on the track, a towering red colt made quite the ruckus as he was led out towards the track. This was lean but not quite as mean but also hailed from Valkyrie Stud's stock, the first son by Pyrotechnics and half to champion Laddie Luck. This was PALACE OF FIRE and he looked on with pricked ears, and curious eyes at his stablemate as he tore across the track.
He had a calm and relaxed jockey - Delilah Hansen and the pair had hit it off pretty well even before the colt had started his training at KC Racing. "They think they're so great, don't they Fieri? I bet you could catch up to them easily, couldn't you." The woman leaned forward and patted the colt's damp red neck and the colt bobbed his head as he loaded into the starting gates and as soon as they opened he leaped forward and began bearing down on the track.
Amarillo Bandit was in a world all of his own, thinking of himself as the king of just about everything when there no one around to challenge him. However, Palace Of Fire gave the dark colt a rude awakening as he stretched out and tried to cover as much ground as possible until Justin could hear the sound of hooves beating behind him.
Palace Of Fire was great at covering ground when asked, no matter the distance because he lived to please his jockey. Amarillo Bandit, of course, didn't like this and tossed his head, changing his gait abruptly before being corrected by his jockey just as the red colt started to tail him as the crossed the finish marker.
ARLECAT && SAMSON COOPER SHANTY TOWN && LARA HANSEN
Tricky Cat has had two successful foals thus far in Super Cat and the phenomenal juvenile Speedy Tomcat (HOTY, $1M in earnings) and we're hoping the third time's the charm with this son of Arlequinn - ARLECAT.
And just like with all of Tricky Cat's previous babies, the colt was boisterous (in a good away) and incredibly friendly - but he was also very intelligent, a staple of his dam. Not quite as mischievous as his older brothers but witty nonetheless.
Samson had bonded fairly quickly with his new mount as the colt wasn't unruly and had a rather pleasant spring in his step. The colt took his time about things but only because he liked to survey the things in front of him.
He was paired with the ever jittery and easily excitable SHANTY TOWN. The bay colt was a tiny little thing standing at 15.3hh and was dwarfed by his red stablemate but the colt made up for his small stature in spirit. Whenever the colt was saddled up he changed from that puppy dog demeanor of his to an absolute demon on the track.
Once the gates were open, Lara was forced to hold on tight to the reins because she knew that Shanty would be eager to get that early lead. Arlecat would linger a little ways back and deal with the race accordingly with little input from his jockey. After all, he was a strategist and not a brute like his little stablemate.
Shanty Town was hungry for speed and even hungrier for putting lengths behind him. When Arlecat finally made his move, Shanty Town pinned his ears and dug deep, ears flattened against his head in response. Lara gave him a little more leeway as Arlecat pushed forward and the two stablemates crossed marker one after the other.
IMPRESS AWAY && ANDY HOBBS JAZZ IT UP && JEAN-CLAUDE CUERVOS
A rare find but a delight to have in our 2019 roster nonetheless is an own daughter of Impressario out of one of our mares, Forgettaboutit. Forgettaboutit has been a bit of a hit and a miss as a broodmare but we're hoping that she'll fair better by matching up with the Merry Bay King-line. This means this girl is a half-sibling to many of the well-established proven foals of Impressario's such as two Hall of Famers, and even two crown winners.
This filly - IMPRESS AWAY - has some mighty big shoes to fill but she definitely has the makings of a racer with an attitude and ambition that fits along rather nicely with her competition. Andy Hobbs considers the filly to be rough around the edges as she's very mare-ish and a complete diva or to put it more of his terms 'a real bitch'. She gets pissy when she doesn't win and ends up being particularly petty afterwards to both horses and her handlers.
She fusses at the starting gate until the staff have enough sense to just let her go in on her own without trying to force her in. It's either her way or no way and that was exactly the case when Andy tried to coax her into one of the gates.
Her workout buddy today was JAZZ IT UP, a half-sister to our 4 year old Louisiana Blues and hailing from the ever popular True Enough-line. The two fillies were well matched with one another although Jazz was much quieter and a hundred times more manageable.
Impress Away was a lot of horse to handle while Jazz loaded right up into the gate, ears alert compared to Impress Away's flaring nose and whites of her eyes showing.
The gates opened and Impress burst through the gates like her tail had been set on fire, her eyes alight and burning with determination. Jazz was calm and collected, especially for a juvenile and broke out the gate more gracefully as she met her stablemate stride for stride down the turf track.
SNOWBIRD && ARTHUR MORGAN SILVER SERAPH && CHARLES SMITH
As a pretty grey filly with a well shaped, feminine head was walked over towards the track, Assistant Trainer, Mikhail couldn't help but whistle in appreciation. "Damn, is that really Silverianna's foal all grown up?" He couldn't help but admire the first foal, SILVER SERAPH, by Y16's Broodmare to Watch and winner of two legs of the tiara back in her hay day.
The mare had finally been bred for the first time as a 9 year old after being out to pasture for 4 years after retiring from the track. The staff at Kennington Stud were worried that the mare would have difficulties being a maiden mare and so many years having passed but Silverianna took up being a mother like a champ. And even now, she had a yearling colt and a Instant Success foal on the way for Y19.
"She looks exactly like her mama too, let's hope she runs good like her too." Came John's voice this time as he watched the filly prance in place for a bit, chewing on the bit and raring to go. The filly would have a running buddy today and she stood out like the white sheep in a flock of black with her pristine white coat.
"Carabella filly?" Was what the jockey asked as he reined the filly in as she tried to wander off and avoid the entrance to the track. "Of course, I doubt any of our mares over at Kennington could throw a ghost like this. Her upcoming yearling colt looks almost the same." Much like her stablemate, SNOWBIRD had a lot of pent up energy and didn't like to be kept waiting for long.
They were both easy to load into the gates but it wasn't hard to figure out that the two girls were antsy, already setting their eyes on the prize. While some horses wanted to just get the race over with, both fillies had the finish line in mind and were thinking of how to get there in the fastest time possible. They were not only just beautiful, but clever as well.
When the gates finally swung open, both fillies broke cleanly and matched each other's strides in time. Silver Seraph was the type to let other horses think they were winning while conserving all of her energy for the long haul before she exploded like a bomb in a nuclear plant. It was a good thing the filly loved long distances as it gave her that much more time to make up the distance if need be.
Snowbird, on the other hand, typically preferred to hang back and access her competition from there. She liked the added difficulty to having to make up for lost time even though she never really ran longer than ten furlongs. Still, as she started to make her move to surpass Silver Seraph, something clicked in the grey filly as if a light bulb had just switched on.
The girl came to life and with fire in her eyes she dug deep into the reserves she had been saving up and pushed past Snowbird, seemingly glancing at the filly for one second with a flick of her ear as though daring her stablemate to try her. With her jockey leaning forward and giving her plenty of rein, Silver Seraph lengthened her stride and rushed forward. Snowbird did the same and tailed the grey filly closely up unto the finish line.
